Jujutsu Kaisen’s Satoru Gojo is easily one of the most popular anime characters right now, and for good reason. He’s more powerful than nearly everyone in the verse, and he’s not afraid to brag. This makes him beloved by fans, and if you landed on this article, you’re probably one of them. You’re in the perfect spot, as we interviewed various anime and manga enthusiasts to explain who Gojo is, what he’s like, his powers and abilities, and more!

Satoru Gojo: A Brief Overview

Anime and manga enthusiast Brandon Riley says Satoru Gojo is one of the most popular characters from Jujutsu Kaisen. He’s the sensei of the main character, Yuji Itadori, as well as the most powerful modern-day sorcerer. He is known for his strength and confidence, as well as his stunning blue eyes and white hair.

Who is Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen?

  1. Pop culture commentator Michael Udayakumar says that Satoru Gojo is the sensei (teacher) of the main characters Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki. He’s quirky, wacky, and loves to have fun, but is also widely regarded as the strongest jujutsu sorcerer of the modern age due to his incredible powers and abilities.[1]
    • Riley says Gojo is one of the most popular characters in JJK. He has white hair, wears a blindfold, and is extremely powerful, cool, and charismatic.[2]
    • Gojo is often known as The Honored One due to how powerful he is, being leagues above every other modern-day sorcerer in the series.
    • He first appeared in Jujutsu Kaisen: 0 as a mentor to Yuta Okkotsu, a teenager who was cursed with the powerful shikigami, Rika.
    • Gojo is 6’3” (190.5 cm), slim yet muscular, and has a slim, symmetrical face. This attracts many anime to him and contributes to his status as one of the most popular bishonen (beautiful young men) in anime.

What is Satoru Gojo’s personality?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Gojo is the most powerful sorcerer of the modern age, and this is a badge he wears confidently… and arrogantly. He believes he is practically invincible, and when met with weak opponents, he isn’t afraid to taunt them and show how much more powerful he is.[3]
    • For example, when he realized his true potential after nearly being killed by Toji Fushiguro, he casually told Fushiguro he was going to die because he didn’t chop Gojo’s head off, even though Fushiguro had the upper hand moments prior.
    • Sometimes, Gojo gets so confident in his abilities that he enters a manic state, determined to win and show that he is the strongest.
    • Even when he’s with friends, he tends to get sarcastic and catty, focusing more on himself and cracking jokes than respecting their feelings.
    • This doesn’t mean Gojo is mean, though; he just likes to tease those he cares about.
  2. Although Gojo can be cold towards those he doesn’t respect, when he’s with students, friends, and colleagues, he’s a happy, wacky individual. He’ll happily crack jokes at his students and tease them to show that he’s comfortable with them. He also dreams that one day they’ll become his equals, showing his immense love and respect for them.
  3. Gojo is a complex individual. Given that he’s the most powerful sorcerer in the modern age, he was often looked at as a weapon by members of his clan, jujutsu higher-ups, and enemies. This made him cruel and indifferent towards those who weren’t his students, friends, colleagues, or anyone strong.[4]
    • This is seen with characters like Principal Gakuganji. With Gakuganji, Gojo is cruel and sarcastic, using his power and abilities to keep his students safe (even though Gakuganji and the higher-ups wish to see them dead).
    • With strong characters like Toji Fushiguro and Ryomen Sukuna, Gojo gives his flowers where they’re due. He took care of Toji’s son after his death and enjoyed his battle with Sukuna to the very end.
      • With anyone else, Gojo would have happily toyed with them until he got bored, as seen when he effortlessly defeated Hanami and Jogo during the Shibuya Incident.
    • This disdain towards the weak changed after the death of Riko Amanai, a “weak” person whom he genuinely admired. This, and his best friend Suguru Geto’s betrayal, led to him protecting the weak and building the next generation to be strong.

Gojo’s Powers & Abilities

PDF download Download Article
  1. Satoru Gojo possesses incredible strength, speed, and endurance, being able to deal with powerful threats like Jogo with just his bare hands. He is also greatly skilled at martial arts, and when he couples this skill with his natural strength and speed, he is more equipped at hand-to-hand combat than thousand-year-old sorcerers like Kenjaku and Ryomen Sukuna.
    • This physical prowess is seen in fights like Gojo vs. Miguel, where the former easily overpowered the latter with a flurry of speedy punches and kicks.
    • He even took down Uraume (arguably Sukuna’s only ally aside from Kenjaku) with a single punch that not even reverse cursed technique could fully heal!
    • His endurance is shown in his fight with Sukuna, where he withstood endless slashes from Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine after the King of Curses used his open domain to cut Gojo’s domain from the outside.
    • Gojo is also known to be faster than Naobito Zenin, a skilled sorcerer who used Projection Sorcery to travel at 24 frames per second.
  2. Six Eyes is an ocular technique exclusive (and rare) to the Gojo clan. According to anime expert Will Taylor, “Six Eyes manifest as bright blue eyes, and give the bearer extra sensory perception so they can see the flow of cursed energy in extreme detail.”[5] They see and manipulate cursed energy at the atomic level, allowing Gojo to make out his environment even when his raw vision is obscured.
    • Six Eyes function similarly to a high-definition infrared camera, allowing Gojo to see through his blindfold and see his environment through cursed energy.
    • Gojo often covers his eyes with tinted sunglasses or a blindfold to limit the strain of Six Eyes, as it can tire him out after extended periods of time.
  3. Due to his Six Eyes technique, Gojo has an incredible understanding of cursed energy. Coupled with his immense reserves and his ability to waste nearly zero cursed energy (thank you again, Six Eyes), this makes Gojo extremely proficient at controlling cursed energy. He can even use it to reinforce his body for protection and additional strength!
    • He’s so proficient that he’s able to expand his domain up to five times a day, whereas the average sorcerer can only do it once a day.
    • Since he spends less cursed energy than other sorcerers, many believe Gojo can never run out of cursed energy.
    • This also grants Gojo with incredible cursed energy output, with the Honored One being able to strengthen the output of Limitless so much that it crushed Hanami between a barrier and a wall.
    • Gojo can also amplify his cursed techniques by using incantations and hand signs, strengthening their output and showing how skilled he is at cursed energy manipulation.
  4. Limitless is Gojo’s innate technique. According to Taylor, Limitless is a Gojo-clan exclusive technique that “lets the user manipulate space at will,” using cursed energy. Taylor says the only way to master Limitless is to have the Six Eyes, and a combination like that only happens every few generations (as is the case with Satoru Gojo).[6]
    • Gojo is able to use his Limitless technique to teleport vast distances by compressing the space between them, though the specific mechanics are unknown.
  5. Infinity is the neutral application of Gojo’s innate technique, Limitless. It breaks the space between Gojo and everyone else, making it so when someone tries to touch him while it’s active, they get slower and slower as they approach him, stopping entirely before they’re ever able to reach him.[7]
    • Initially, Gojo had to manually activate and deactivate Infinity, as it tired him out after extended periods.
    • After his battle with Toji Fushiguro, Gojo learned how to constantly repair his brain with reverse cursed technique and keep Infinity active at all times.
    • He even programmed the technique to automatically protect him from objects based on their cursed energy’s intensity, speed, mass, and shape.
  6. Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue is the reinforced version of Limitless. Rather than simply slowing down anyone who approaches Gojo, the technique attracts anyone who comes near it, as Limitless is amplified with negative energy. This makes a vacuum that Gojo is able to use to force the world to correct itself. He’s literally breaking the laws of physics![8]
    • At its maximum output, Blue creates a center of gravity that can attract all nearby matter and crush it effortlessly. Gojo can manipulate this at will.
  7. Cursed Technique Reversal: Red is the result of pouring the positive energy from reverse cursed technique into Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue. Rather than attracting like Blue does, Red repels anyone who comes near it, blasting targets away when Gojo needs to shift the tides a little bit.[9]
    • Red outputs double the energy of Blue.
  8. Hollow Purple is the most powerful technique in Gojo’s arsenal. It’s the result of combining Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue with Cursed Technique Reversal: Red. It smashes the attractive and repulsive techniques together to create imaginary mass, which destroys everything in its path by literally erasing matter.[10]
    • The greatest Holllow Purple was seen in Shinjuku when Utahime Iori used Solo Forbidden Area, and Gojo used incantations and hand signs to amplify it to 200% of its normal output.
    • The 200% Hollow Purple was able to travel from Shibuya to Shinjuku, a distance of 2.5 miles (4 kilometers), as it destroyed everything in its path (including Sukuna’s arm).
  9. According to anime and manga expert Ryan Burns, Gojo’s strongest attack is his domain expansion, Unlimited Void. When he activates it, everyone trapped within it is overloaded with infinite amounts of stimuli and information, which can incapacitate them and render them brain-dead.[11]
  10. According to anime expert Richard Moore, reverse cursed technique is a technique where users multiply negative cursed energy by itself to create positive cursed energy. This positive cursed energy can be used to repair limbs, organs, the brain, and change the properties of a user’s innate technique.[12]
    • Although Gojo couldn’t initially grasp the technique, when he was nearly killed by Toji Fushiguro, he finally understood how it worked and used it to heal his injuries.
    • During the fight with Fushiguro, Gojo also poured reverse cursed energy into his technique, using it to create Cursed Technique Reversal: Red.
  11. Black Flash is a unique cursed phenomenon that occurs when the user applies cursed energy to a hit 0.000001 seconds after it lands. This application causes their cursed energy to flash black, distort space, and amplify the destructive power of their hit to the ⅖ power.
    • Gojo showed his proficiency with the technique during his fight against Sukuna, where he caught him off guard and hit him so hard that he knocked him unconscious.
    • Although it’s unknown how often Gojo has performed the Black Flash, he’s done it at least four times according to Kento Nanami, breaking Nanami’s record.
  12. A simple domain is an anti-domain technique that negates a domain’s barrier and sure-hit effect in a certain area around the user. Typically, it appears as a wide circle beneath their feet, as is the case for Gojo. He usually doesn’t need to use the technique, but activates it during his fight against Sukuna to counter his domain.
  13. This is another anti-domain technique, though it’s exclusive to the Big Three Families (the Gojo, Zenin, and Kamo clans). Rather than ranging a certain area, this technique shrouds Gojo in cursed energy that negates a domain’s sure-hit effect when it comes in contact with it. Gojo learned the technique as a child and didn’t use it again until his fight with Sukuna.
    • The technique didn’t completely negate Sukuna’s slices, as the domain had an extremely high output. It did weaken them, however.
  14. Curtain is a barrier that surrounds a specific area and seals it off from others (or a specific person) wanting to enter. Gojo is able to create these seemingly with ease, as shown during Yuta Okkotsu’s first mission in Jujutsu Kaisen: 0, when he used it to seal off a school.[13]

Why is Gojo so strong?

PDF download Download Article
  1. These are the prized techniques of the Gojo clan, and can only be utilized to their full potential when a user is gifted with both of them. This is an extremely rare case in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, with Satoru Gojo being the first to bear both techniques in 400 years. Together, they make him nearly invincible and put him leagues above practically every other character in the universe.[14]
    • These two techniques are so powerful that when Gojo was born, he shifted the balance of the Jujutsu universe. Curses became more powerful and abundant so he didn’t tip the scales.
