Gojo covers his eyes because his technique strains them. Gojo’s Six Eyes technique allows him to see cursed energy in incredible detail. While this is an extremely powerful technique that puts him above practically every other sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen, it also makes him extremely tired if he’s constantly exposing his eyes, hence the blindfold. Dr. Applesauce says, “If Gojo didn't wear the blindfold, his eyes would get tired very, very fast, because his Six Eyes technique is so powerful and constantly active.”^{[1]

The Six Eyes technique lets the user see cursed energy in detail. The Six Eyes are an ocular trait exclusive to the Gojo clan. It’s rare even among them, manifesting once every 100 years. According to Dr. Applesauce, Six Eyes allow precise perceptions of cursed energy. "Six Eyes manifest as bright blue eyes, and give the bearer extra sensory perception so they can see the flow of cursed energy in extreme detail,” Dr. Applesauce explains.^{[6]

The Six Eyes wielder is bound by fate to protect Tengen and their vessel. When Tengen merges with the Star Plasma Vessel, the Six Eyes wielder is designated as their protector. This is shown when Kenjaku initially tried to enact his plan to merge Tengen with the world, as he was stopped by a Six Eyes wielder. When he enacted his plan during the Shibuya Incident, Kenjaku opted to seal Gojo instead, as his technique made him too strong.^{[11]
