  1. Jujutsu Kaisen centers around a group of sorcerers—namely, Yuji Itadori and his friends. After Yuji consumes a cursed finger that contains the soul of ancient sorcerer Ryomen Sukuna, Yuji becomes Sukuna’s vessel. He then begins training as a Jujutsu sorcerer to prevent Sukuna from destroying humanity.

  1. JJK has some of the most powerful and evil villains of all time. Ryomen Sukuna is the most powerful sorcerer to ever wield Jujutsu. After his death, his soul was sealed into 20 cursed fingers. In the present day, he’s seeking to emerge and rule once more, helped by sorcerers like Kenjaku and curses like Mahito.[2]
    • Ryomen Sukuna (The King of Curses): A powerful sorcerer who lived over 1000 years ago during the Heian Era; reincarnated in the body of Yuji Itadori in the present day
    • Kenjaku: An ancient curse user who lived over 1,000 years ago and still exists in the present day; helped Sukuna divide his soul into the 20 cursed objects.[3]
    • Suguru Geto: Originally a student at Jujutsu High; expelled for killing 112 non-sorcerers
    • Mahito: Unregistered special-grade cursed spirit; ally of Kenjaku; wants to replace humanity with cursed spirits[4]
    • Toji Fushiguro (Sorcerer Killer): Assassin; former member of Zen’in family; father of Megumi Fushiguro[5]

  1. The core group of antagonists in JJK are the first-year students at Tokyo Jujutsu High, but the second-year students play an important part, too.
    • Maki Zen’in: Born as a non-sorcerer into the Zen’in family; leaves the family and begins studying Jujutsu[6]
    • Toge Inumaki: Born into the Inumaki clan; semi-grade 1 Jujutsu sorcerer
    • Panda: Abrupt-mutation cursed corpse created by Masamichi Yaga; semi-grade 2 sorcerer & Jujutsu student
    • Yuta Okkotsu: Special-grade cursed human; haunted by the spirit of his childhood friend Rika for most of his life; main protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High
  2. The third-year students at Tokyo Jujutsu High are both suspended at the start of the series, so they don’t appear until later. Hakari is suspended for assaulting a high-ranking Jujutsu sorcerer, and Hoshi follows him away from the school to help him run his fight club.[7]
    • Kinji Hakari (The Restless Gambler): Suspended; runs the underground Gachinko Fight Club
    • Kirara Hoshi: Loyal companion of Hakari; helps operate the Gachinko Fight Club[8]
  3. In addition to the students, Tokyo Jujutsu High features a staff of powerful teachers and staff. They include:

  1. Kyoto Jujutsu High doesn’t play as big a role in JJK as Tokyo Jujutsu High, but the students, teachers, and staff there still play an important role in the story. In the anime, they appear most notably at the Kyoto-Tokyo Sister-School Goodwill Event. The students and faculty of Kyoto Jujutsu High include:[13]
    • Arata Nitta: First-year student; brother of Akari Nitta
    • Mai Zen’in: Second-year student; twin sister of maki Zen’in
    • Kokichi Muta (Mechamaru): Second-year student; Heavenly Restriction (unlimited Cursed Energy but physical handicaps); controls the cursed puppet Mechamaru
    • Kasumi Miwa : Second-year student; grade 3 sorcerer
    • Momo Nishimiya: Third-year student; non-combatant

  1. In addition to the ones we’ve already mentioned, these sorcerers are powerful players in JJK. They use Jujutsu to help protect humans and Jujutsu practitioners from evil sorcerers who want to take over.
    • Yuki Tsukumo: Special-grade Jujutsu sorcerer
    • Master Tengen (Star): Immortal Jujutsu sorcerer; teachings became the founding of Jujutsu
    • Takuma Ino: Grade 2 sorcerer; associate of Nanami
    • Mei Mei: Grade 1 sorcerer for hire[14]
  2. The Culling Game is a battle where Jujutsu sorcerers are forced to fight each other to the death. Kenjaku creates this battle-royale-style event to force humanity to evolve their cursed energy into powerful Jujutsu.[15] The event takes place across 10 colonies.   1. Mahito is the leader of the Disaster Curses, a group of unregistered special grade curse spirits. Mahito himself was born from humans’ hate and fear, and each of the remaining curses were born from the fear of a natural disaster. They are:[17]
    • Jogo: Born from humans’ fear of the earth
    • Hanami: Born from humans’ fear of land-based natural disasters
    • Dagon: Born from humans’ fear of water-based natural disasters
  2. The Zen’in clan is a famous family of sorcerers. They’re known for their powerful use of cursed energy and their ruthless pursuit of power. Under the rule of Naobito Zen’in, anyone born into the family without powers was rejected—a stance which heavily influences the events of JJK. In addition to Maki and Mai Zen’in and Toji Fushiguro, other members of the Zen’in clan include:
