Find out how to unlock the playable character Chara in JSD
PDF download Download Article

Jump Showdown is a fun Roblox battleground game where you can fight using different characters. Chara (or the Cursed Child) is a popular character in the game—they appear as both a boss version and a playable character. But if you want to play as Chara, you’ll have to unlock them first. We’re showing you exactly how to get Chara in the game, plus explaining their moveset, whether the pros and cons of the character, and where Chara comes from.

How to Get Chara in Jump Showdown

To unlock Chara in JSD, go to Shinjuku Station and wait for Boss Chara to spawn. Fight Boss Chara, and land in the top 3 players for most damage dealt to have a chance of unlocking the playable version of Chara. If you prefer to fight in a private server, don’t use any commands (including Strike) or Chara won’t spawn.

How to Unlock Chara in Jump Showdown

  1. Join a public or private server on Jump Showdown and head to Shinjuku Station, near the back of the map. Run across the wide, grassy area that’s in front of you. Pass through a gap in the big stone wall to find the station.
    • The Boss Arena is inside Shinjuku Station.
    • The best JSD characters for fighting Boss Chara are Unsealed Sorcerer, Unhinged Esper, Unwanted God, and Godly Highschooler. But if you’re more comfortable with another character, it’s fine to fight with them.
    • Note for private servers: Do not use any PS+ Commands (including simple ones like Strike) inside the server. If you use commands, it will prevent Chara from spawning.[1]
  2. Every 17.5 minutes, a battle will spawn inside the Boss Arena. Each time a showdown spawns, there’s a 50% chance that it will be Chara. (The other boss is Heian Sukuna, the King of Curses).[2]
    • You can skip the wait by paying 499 Robux to the NPC Jimpee at the Boss Arena, but there will still only be a 50% chance that Chara will spawn.[3]

  3. Fight Boss Chara aggressively to ensure you do the most damage during the battle. You have the best chance of obtaining Chara if you’re in 1st place for damage after the showdown, but you can still get them if you’re in 2nd or 3rd place.[4] Here are some tips for battling Boss Chara in Jump Showdown:
    • Side dash when you approach Chara. This is especially useful if you’re coming from mid-range, since it will help you dodge Chara’s sliding attack once you get close.[5]
    • Play alone or with one friend on a private server. Playing by yourself or with one other person makes the fight more manageable. If Chara faces a group of 3 or more, they can trigger their Special Hell ability, a shockwave that ragdolls opponents. (You’ll also have more competition for the top 3 spots if you play in a public server.)
    • Play defensively during Phase 2. Boss Chara has a two-phase battle. Phase 1 uses Chara’s base attacks (at 2x the damage of the playable character), but in Phase 2, Chara adds 4 new moves, including the playable character’s 3 Ultimate moves and a unique move called Shatter Slashes.
    • Leave the arena when your health gets low. Chara can’t follow you outside of the arena, so if you’re close to dying, you can leave the boundaries to regenerate your health. Just keep in mind that this will give other players a chance to do more damage to Chara while you’re gone.
    • Keep battling if you don’t get Chara the first time. Even the 1st place player isn’t guaranteed to get Chara after a Boss Showdown. But if you stay in the same server and keep battling, the probability of getting them goes up each time you defeat Chara—up to a maximum of 65%. Just be sure you don’t leave or rejoin the server, since that will reset the probability.

What are Chara’s moves in Jump Showdown?

  1. They’re a high-skill character—it can be tricky to land blows at first. But once you get the hang of their movements, Chara deals immense damage with their attacks. Here’s what they can do:
    • Base Ability 1—Onslaught: 2 forward slashes with the knife, followed by 3 kicks, 2 more knife slashes, and an upwards kick.[6]
    • Base Ability 1 Airborne Variant—Feral Takedown: Punches opponent to the ground, then stabs them in the torso.
    • Base Ability 2—Lethal Wound: A forward slide, 3 chest stabs, then a kick forward.
    • Base Ability 3—Bloody Mary: A kick, slash, and grab, followed by another kick backwards, an upwards kick, and a downward stab.
    • Base Ability 4—Fight: Chara stabs the opponent, then grabs them. A slider appears; pressing the button in the middle of the slider does 10 damage per hit.
    • Awakening Ability 1—Cursed Remedy: 3 forward-diagonal slashes, a forward stab, then a flurry of slashes before throwing the opponent backwards.[7]
    • Awakening Ability 2—Reset: A cutscene of Chara rushing forward with a knife; deals 50% damage to the opponent and 25% damage to Chara and anyone standing nearby.
    • Awakening Ability 3—Atonement: Triggers a minigame. If the opponent fails, they’re killed instantly. If they win, they take Chara’s knife and deal 15 damage to the player.
    • Awakening Ability 4—Seven Souls: Chara clone appears; rushing attack followed by a single slash, then a slash combo. A slider appears; hitting the button when the slider is in the center triggers a powerful slash attack.
    • Awakening Ability 5—Special Hell: Chara slams knife into the ground and screams “Welcome to my special hell!” This triggers a shockwave that ragdolls opponents.

Pros & Cons of Chara in JSD

PDF download Download Article
  1. Chara’s attacks are really strong, although they can be a little hard to hit sometimes. Most of their moves have a lot of range, and some are unblockable or can bypass ragdoll. Additionally, most of their abilities deal I-Frames that make you temporarily invincible. This makes Chara especially effective in group settings since you have a chance of dodging enemies’ attacks.[8]
    • Chara can use their Awakening to revive if they’re killed. This gives you another chance to keep fighting, but you’ll revive with really low health.
    • Chara’s moves often have long animations. This means their ability cooldowns feel shorter, but some players find the cutscenes annoyingly long. And because the Awakening cutscene is so long, opponents can sometimes just walk away before it takes effect.

  1. If Heian Sukuna spawns in the Boss Showdown instead of Chara, don’t skip the fight—especially if you play Jujutsu Shenanigans. If you defeat Sukuna, you have a chance of unlocking Chara in JJS.[9]
    • The same rules apply here—if you deal the most damage in the round, you’ll have the best chance of unlocking Chara, but you’ll still have a chance if you come in 2nd or 3rd place.
    • It’s unknown whether Chara will remain as a character in Jujutsu Shenanigans once the JJS x JSD crossover event ends.

  1. Chara Dreemurr is largely unseen in Undertale, but they played a significant role in the events leading up to the game. They’re a human, but after finding themselves in the Underground, they’re adopted by the King and Queen of the Monsters. Eventually, they reject humanity and sacrifice themselves for their monster family.[10]
    • Chara is often referred to as “she/her,” but canonically, they use “they/them” pronouns.
