Dispatch dishes out more than one difficult decision for players to make—but few are more agonizing than the decision to defend Invisigal’s actions or cut her from the Z-Team in episode 7 (“Retrospective”). On the one hand, nobody wants to upset their entire team; on the other, the Phoenix program is all about giving former villains chances to be heroes. So, what happens if you choose to cut Invisigal? We can explain! Read on for a complete guide to the consequences of cutting (or defending) Invisigal, and what that means for your Dispatch playthrough.
The Consequences of Cutting Invisigal in Dispatch
Cutting Invisigal in Dispatch results in Robert losing trust in Visi (which can lead to getting the “bad mentor” ending). The Z-Team supports this choice and, as a result, has normal (good) morale during the final dispatch shift in episode 8; however, Invisigal won’t show up to help during the shift.
Steps
Cutting vs. Defending Invisigal in Dispatch
-
The decision to cut or defend Invisigal happens in episode 7. After Invisigal defies orders to get the Astral Pulse—resulting in Chase being left near death—she’s suspended from the Z-Team, leaving the rest of the team furious over her actions. After episode 7’s dispatch shift, the team gathers to tell Robert that they’ve voted, and they want Invisigal to be cut. At this point, Robert is given a choice: CUT or DEFEND.[4]
- CUT - Robert agrees to cut Invisigal from the Z-Team. Everyone except Golem (and, variably, Flambae) is in favor of this.
- DEFEND - Robert defends Invisigal and insists on giving her another chance, disappointing the rest of the Z-Team.
-
Ultimately, you can decide for yourself whether to cut Invisigal. By the game’s standards, defending Invisigal is the heroic thing to do and cutting her is the bad choice—but it’s really down to how you feel, in the end. You can defend Visi or cut her, based on personal preference. Just be aware that the decision will most likely affect your ending in Dispatch, so if you care about that, make your decisions accordingly!
- For instance, if you definitely want the good ending, you should pick DEFEND. If you want to see the bad ending, pick CUT.
Does cutting Invisigal guarantee the “bad” ending?
-
No, although cutting Invisigal makes the “bad” ending more likely. Here’s the thing: cutting Invisigal doesn’t lock in a particular ending, it just subtracts a higher number of “mentor” points from Robert’s score—meaning Visi loses trust in him, as explained above. If you’ve lost trust with Invisigal in other parts of the game, too, this choice can result in Visi choosing to embrace the life of a villain, leading to the “bad mentor” ending
- Basically, unless you’re really confident that you’ve done everything else right with Invisigal, don’t cut her unless you’re okay with getting the “bad mentor” ending.
-
Invisigal can still technically become a hero after being cut from the team. Earning enough points throughout the rest of the game can effectively balance out the hit for cutting Invisigal, letting you get the “good mentor” ending anyway. The only thing is, the game doesn’t tell you when you earn points, or show you your relationship stats with Invisigal, so it’s hard to know when you’ve done enough to cut her and still get the good ending.
- Dispatching Invisigal on missions and leveling her up to at least Rank 8 are also part of getting the “good mentor” ending, so there are definitely other factors involved.
- There are also other dialogue choices where you can gain “good mentor” points, including untying her in episode 8.
- Dispatch players have reported cutting Visi and still getting her to be a hero in the end, so it is possible!
