It’s part of the JoJo Pose trend, where people imitate iconic poses from the equally iconic anime and manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. We’ll tell you more about the trending challenge and where it came from, as well as how to hop in on the fun yourself.

The “JoJo Poses” trend is a TikTok challenge where people try to imitate iconic poses from the popular manga and anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, often using the sound “JoJo Pose” by Apollo Fresh. The series is notable for taking inspiration from fashion magazines and pop culture.

The “JoJo pose” is a viral posing trend inspired by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a manga and anime series. In the series, characters often strike dramatic poses that have given the series tons of iconic moments. Recently, people have been recreating these poses on camera and uploading them to TikTok or other social media to show off their appreciation for the series, as well as their slick outfits and styling choices, like in this TikTok from user bboommyktr.^{[1]

Where did the trend start?

The trend started in Japan with “JoJo’s Posing School.” JoJo posing became a trend in 2003, starting with a project called “JoJo’s Posing School” that began on the Japanese fanfiction website Bungei Junkie Paradise. For the “school,” certain users would upload photos demonstrating different iconic poses from the series. The trend caught on, and fans began uploading their own examples.^{[2]

- Since then, the trend traveled to Western countries like the US, where it became a common activity at conventions and other fan get-togethers.
- The creator of JoJo, Hirohiko Araki, approved of the trend in 2007, saying, "Amazing. This is modern art, I felt so. I want to draw more fantasy-inspired art because I pursue the reality in the story. JoJo's Pose is the way to achieve a perfect balance between reality and fantasy.”^{[3]

The trend went viral again with Apollo Fresh’s hit single, "JoJo Pose." The rapper released the song in 2020, which immediately caused a resurgence in JoJo Posing.^{[4]

Joseph Joestar Pose Joseph was the first protagonist of the series, and his signature pose is one of the most memorable. To do it, just bend one knee slightly and lift your arms over your head so that your forearms rest on top of your head, with your hands open like you’re doing jazz hands. Then, turn your head to the side, and boom. JoJo Pose.

Jonathan Joestar’s Volume 4 Cover Pose Jonathan is the protagonist of the manga’s first arc, and this pose is about as iconic as it gets. It’s pretty simple: stand with one leg vertical and the other slanted straight out to the side, so that you’re leaning in the opposite direction. Hold your hand with your fingers spread in front of your face, with your elbow tucked in at the front.^{[5]

Jotaro Kujo’s Issue #36 Pose Jotaro is another of the series protagonists, and this is arguably his signature pose. It’s also pretty easy: Stand with your feet spread and at an angle, like you’re standing on a skateboard rolling forward. Then, tilt your brow slightly down and point at the camera with one hand.

Giorno Giovanna’s Issue #5/6 Pose This is one of the most recognizable JoJo poses, thanks to its striking face-on angle. Stand with your feet wide apart and your hip thrust out to the right. Then, grab your shirt collar with your right hand and pull it to the side while your left hand grabs your shirt’s hem.

Lisa Lisa’s Beauty Pose This one is dynamic and super fab, but also a bit trickier. To pull it off, stand on one leg with your other knee raised high across your body. Then, raise your arms and open your palms on either side of your head so that they face the camera, and tilt your head slightly down and to the side.

Dio’s Villain Pose This pose is dripping with aura, which makes sense given that it’s hit by the series’ main antagonist, Dio. To do it, turn your back to the camera and stand with your weight on one leg. Turn your torso slightly so that one shoulder is raised above the other, and you’re glancing over it out of the corner of your eye. Then, raise your opposite hand to be slightly open, palm-up, peeking over your shoulder.

Jolyne Cujoh's Signature Pose Jolyne is the bold and brash young daughter of the Jojo family line, and her iconic pose carries plenty of attitude. Stand with one hip jutted out and your head tilted the same direction. Cross your opposite arm over your stomach to grab that hip, then place your other elbow on top of that art, cradling your chin in your hand.

Narciso Anasui’s Signature Pose Narciso’s pose is all about flair and style. Angle yourself to the side, then reach up and grab the back of your head with both arms, arching your back and peeking out from the triangle created by your elbow.

Polnareff’s Rooftop Pose Polnareff’s most iconic pose is suitably silly, and makes use of a tricky angle. You’ll need to angle your camera from up high. Then, take a huge step forward and reach up toward the camera with one hand, with the other at your side.

Josuke’s Intro Pose The young, handsome delinquent Josuke has signature Jojo attitude. Put your hand on your hip and jut your behind out, then use the other arm to sling a bag over your shoulder while giving the camera a smug smile.

Film yourself doing the pose. Now, set up a camera and film yourself hitting the pose. For bonus points, make it more dynamic by doing your own dance, or even just a few other minor poses, before you hit the big one. This is also the time to dress up in a slick outfit to show off your fashion sense, which itself is a big part of JoJo.

Trim the video so that you hold the pose for a brief moment, and then add a cut or a transition that reveals the original pose illustration. Then, add a sound to the video—either something from the JoJo soundtrack, or Apollo Fresh’s trendy song.
