Being Your Best Bruh Girl

What is a "bruh girl?" It's the internet's latest term for a girl who's bold, audacious, and unapologetic. She's a bit of a tomboy, and she doesn't sugarcoat things. Essentially, she can do anything the guys can do. We talked to stylists and social experts to show you exactly how a bruh girl presents herself:

  • Licensed social worker and LGBTQ+ identity expert Zoe Stoller says, "You can present in whatever ways feel best to your body... It can be in a way that society might perceive as traditionally masculine, and you get to decide how you feel about that perception in relation to your identity."[1]
  • Makeup artist Yuka Arora says, "There’s this [look] that’s been around for some time now called the Boy Beat. That’s this trend where people will do a makeup look to purposefully make them look more masculine... It includes making your brows fuller, bushier, and darker, putting darker colors under your eyes, putting some darker eye shadow around your eyes, sometimes adding freckles, adding bronzer and blush if you want, then doing a [less] harsh contour, but definitely sharper lines, which automatically makes your face more masculine, and then a very natural lip."[2]
  • Fashion stylist Natalie Tincher tells us that "A tomboy style is heavily associated with a relaxed style personality. Some of your core wardrobe items would include jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts for casual looks. For a dressier tomboy look, staples may include blazers or suits and menswear-inspired shoes like oxfords. Choose neutral colors like black, gray, navy, and white."[3]
  • Professional stylist Joanne Gruber says the bruh girl style includes "Oversized parkas, oversized leathers... There are even brands that are coming out with your boyfriend’s flannel shirt, or your boyfriend’s leather jacket, so it’s the look for it to be oversized."[4]
