     • “A sexual message sent too early can come off as creepy or try-hard instead of confident,” Baller adds.
   • Vibe + Momentum: “Is the conversation already fun, playful, and moving forward? Risky texts work when there’s a genuine back-and-forth. They flop when [people] send them hoping to ‘force’ attraction.”
     • “If the vibe is there and you’ve built some interest, the right risky text can spark things,” says Baller. “If you’re unsure, you probably need a little more rapport first.”

   Think about how you’d react if the text didn’t go well. If you’re friends with your crush, hitting send on that uber flirty text can feel nerve-wrecking as you’re putting yourself out there and hoping for the best. Before you hit send, consider how a rejection from them might affect the friendship.

   • Do you think the friendship could still be salvaged even if they’re not into you romantically? If yes, hit send. Even if the answer to that question is no, figure out if it’s still worth it to you just to shoot your shot.
     • If you think sending that risky text would make things too awkward between you and you truly value the friendship, don’t send it.
