The Snap Map is a fun and handy feature, but sometimes you don't want everyone knowing where you are at all times. While there's no simple button to pause your Snap location, there are a few ways you can hide your location from others in the Snapchat app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad. Keep reading to learn how.

Ways to Pause Your Snap Location

  • From your Snap Map settings, enable Ghost Mode to temporarily (or permanently) hide your location.
  • Use the Snap Map settings to easily disable your phone's location services so Snapchat can't pinpoint your location.
  • Change your Snap settings so only certain friends can see your Snap Map location.

  3. 3
Tap the Settings button at the top of the screen. It's next to an option that says "Sharing Live Location." This means that Snapchat is sharing your current location using your phone's location services. According to Reddit, turning off your location sharing in Snapchat will pause your Snap Map location.[1] You won't see your Bitmoji on the map anymore, but others will see it at your last location.[2]
  4. 4
Disable location sharing. Tap on the Location option and change it to a setting other than "Always." You can choose to share your location only when using the app, or to never share your location.
    • Once you do this, you'll see that the option at the top of your Location Settings says "Live location: Off."
    • If you choose to share your live location when the app is open, you'll need to keep Snapchat closed for your location not to update.
    • To turn your live location back on, open your Snap Map settings again, tap the yellow Settings button, then change your location settings to "always."

    • When you have Ghost Mode on, your Bitmoji will hold up a blue ghost sign on the map. Your friends will know that you've turned on Ghost Mode, but your current location won't be shared with anyone.
    • However, if you share a snap to the Snap Map, your location may be shared.
  2. 2
Tap the settings icon. It's on the right side of the screen, under your profile picture. The icon has a gear and a location pin on it.
  3. 3
Tap the Ghost Mode toggle. When you tap the toggle, you'll get a pop-up asking you how long you want Ghost Mode to stay on. You can choose 3 hours, 24 hours, or Until Turned Off.[3]
