Catch Regirock, Regice, and Registeel in Emerald
PDF download Download Article

The Regi Trio are difficult Pokémon to catch in Pokémon Emerald, but it's not impossible if you know exactly where to go. In this article, we'll go over how to prepare for the Regi Trio and how to catch Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.

Quick Steps

  1. Catch a Relicanth and Wailord.
  2. Bring lots of Ultra Balls and Timer Balls, as well as Pokémon that know Dig, Surf, Rock Smash, and Flash.
  3. Go to the dive cave near Pacifidlog Town.
  4. With Wailord first in your party and Relicanth last, use Dig in front of the middle Braille symbol to trigger an earthquake.
  5. Catch Regirock in its cave in the desert south of Lavaridge Town.
  6. Catch Regice in its cave on Route 105.
  7. Catch Registeel in its cave on Route 120.

  1. Wild Relicanth can be found underwater around Sootopolis City. All you need to do is dive underwater and look in the patches of seaweed. Finding Relicanth might take a while because Clamperl mostly appear, but after a few encounters, one will be sure to show up. Using a Dive Ball or a Net Ball is best because Relicanth has a low catch rate with other Poké Balls.[1]
  2. Encountering a wild Wailord in the wild is very rare, so it's best to level up Wailmer to level 40. They can be caught with a Super Rod around Dewford Town. Using a Net Ball is best for Wailmer (or Wailord) also.[2]

Bring Pokémon that know Dig, Surf, Rock Smash, Flash, and False Swipes. You'll need Pokémon that know Dig, Surf, Rock Smash, and Flash to access the cave that unlocks the Regi tombs, and False Swipes is helpful when fighting the Regis so they go down to 1 HP without fainting.
    • It's also a good idea to bring Pokémon that can inflict the status effects Paralyze, Frozen, and Asleep. Avoid inflicting Burn or Poison, as these status effects cause tick damage that might knock the Regi out.
  4. 4
Stock up on Ultra Balls and Timer Balls. Ultra Balls are the best Poké Balls to use when catching the Regis, but you might want to switch to Timer Balls after about 30 throws. The longer you fight a Regi, the better the Timer Ball will be.
    • If you have your Master Ball, you can use it on a Regi to catch it instantly. You only have one, though!
  5. Follow these steps to "unlock" the Regi caves:
    • Use Surf and find the area where the currents start.
    • Ride the currents around until you get to a diving spot around Route 134, and use Dive there. You will come to a cave entrance.
    • Go into the cave and you will find slabs of rock with Braille on them.
    • Go to the far end of the cave and stand in front of the middle Braille.
    • Put Wailord in the front of your party and Relicanth last.
    • Have your Dig Pokémon use Dig. An earthquake should occur, which signifies the caves are open.[3]

    • Walk two steps left, then two steps down.

  1. 1
Fly to Fortree City. Registeel's cave is located on Route 120.
  2. Once inside, go to the center of the cave and use Flash. The door will now open. Registeel will be inside waiting to be challenged. It is as the usual level 40.[7]
  3. Once you've finished the battle and captured Registeel, save the game once more.
    • If you own a Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum version of Pokémon, you can migrate the Regi Trio through Pal Park and catch Regigigas! (Note: Pal Park is only open after you have completed the main story and seen every Pokémon in Sinnoh.)

How do I open the cave in Pokemon Emerald?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
You need to have a Wailord in the front of your party and a Relicanth in the back. Fly to Route 134 and dive. Swim through the hole in the wall, and keep on swimming until you find some braille on the wall. Read it, then go back up to the surface. You will now be inside the Sealed Chamber. Read the braille if you like. Find a big section of braille at the back. Read it, then use Dig to open it up. Go through. Again, you can read the braille if you like, but go to the back. Make sure you have Relicanth at the back, and Wailord in the front of your party of Pokemon. Read the braille at the back, and it will shake the ground. You will hear a strange clunking sound.

It's just luck, unless you're using the Master Ball. Keep trying until you catch it.
