A Guide to Major Female Characters in Pokémon
Misty: Misty is one of Ash’s original traveling companions from the Pokémon series (alongside Brock). She specializes in water-type Pokémon and later becomes the gym leader of the Cerulean City gym.
Serena: Serena is one of Ash’s former traveling companions and a childhood friend of his. She later becomes a rising Pokémon performer and Pokémon coordinator while also aspiring to become the Kalos Queen.
Iris: Iris is one of Ash’s former traveling companions who years to be a Dragon Master and later becomes the Champion of Unova. She’s also recognized as one of the eight best Pokémon trainers in the world!

Cynthia: Cynthia is a beloved Champion of the Sinnoh region and one of the top eight Pokémon trainers in the world. She helps Ash and his friends a number of times in the series, including when dealing with Team Rocket.
Whitney: Whitney is the high-spirited leader of the Goldenrod City gym (although she initially gets angry when defeated). She specializes in normal-type Pokémon.
Honey: Honey appears in Pokémon Sword and Shield as former champion Mustard and the mother of Hyde. She’s also the Dojo Matron at the Master Dojo in the Isle of Armor.
Karen: Karen is a silver-haired member of the Indigo Elite Four and a trainer specializing in dark-type Pokémon. She prefers dark-type Pokémon not for their abilities, but for their tough and wild persona.
Acerola: Acerola is a member of the Alola Elite Four specializing in ghost-type Pokémon. She’s also the captain of Thrifty Megamart’s abandoned site on Ula’ula Island in several Pokémon games…and the last surviving member of an Alolan royal family!
Lorelei: Lorelei is a trainer specializing in ice-type Pokémon and a member of the Indigo Elite Four in earlier generations of Pokémon games. She battles with a Lapras that has been at her side since she was a child, when she caught it in Icefall Cave.
Sabrina: Sabrina is the Saffron City gym leader and an incredibly powerful trainer focusing on psychic-type Pokémon. She also has psychic abilities, making her very hard to beat in battle. She appears in the original Pokémon series and many Pokémon games, starting with Red and Blue.
Jasmine: Jasmine is the gym leader of the Olivine City gym, specializing in steel-type Pokémon. She’s shy and compassionate but also formidable in a Pokémon battle.
Argenta: Argenta is the “Frontier Brain,” and she runs the Battle Frontier’s Battle Hall in several Pokémon games.
Bea: Bea is a martial artist and gym leader of the Stow-on-Side gym. Specializing in fighting-type Pokémon, Bea is portrayed as emotionless at first but reveals her inner feelings (and love of sweets) to trusted Pokémon partners.
Bianca: Not only is Bianca a rival to the player in Black and White, but she also becomes Professor Juniper’s assistant, discovering her love of studying Pokémon instead.
Agatha: Agatha is a powerful ghost-type trainer and member of the Indigo Elite Four in several Pokémon games. She’s also the oldest-known member of the Elite Four and an inspiration for senior Pokémon trainers.
Phoebe: As a member of the Hoenn Elite Four, Phoebe is also a trainer specializing in ghost-type Pokémon. She trains at Mount Pyre, which is where she gained the ability to commune with her ghostly Pokémon.
