Dive is one of the recurring HMs you can get in the Pokémon series. In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, you can get Dive from Steven right away, but it's a bit different in Pokémon Emerald. In this article, we'll go over what you need to do to get HM08 Dive in Pokémon Emerald. Keep reading to learn more.
Quick Steps
- Go to Mossdeep City.
- Beat Gym Leaders Tate and Liza.
- Go to the Mossdeep Space Center.
- Defeat the Team Magma grunts on the first floor.
- Team up with Steven on the second floor to fight Tabitha and Maxie.
- Return to Steven's house after the battle to get HM08 Dive.
Steps
-
Go to Mossdeep City. Mossdeep City is on an island along the eastern edge of Hoenn, near Shoal Cave, on Route 125.
-
Defeat the Mossdeep City Gym. If you haven't defeated Gym Leaders Tate and Liza of Mossdeep City, you must do so before continuing.[1]
- Tate and Liza use Psychic Pokémon, so make sure to use Pokémon that are great against Psychic-type Pokémon.
- The best option to defeat the double gym leader is to use Absol. You can find this wild Pokémon on Route 120, though you only have a 7-10% chance of finding one. Absol learns Bite at level 28, which is very effective against the Psychic-type Pokémon Tate and Liza use.
- Another Pokémon to use in this fight would be a Dark Pokémon such as Mightyena; this Pokémon can be found on the route west of Lilycove City.
- After beating the Gym Leaders, you will obtain a badge, and this will trigger an event in the Space Center.
-
Head for Mossdeep Space Center. Team Magma has sent a letter to the Space Center informing them that they will be stealing their rocket fuel. By the time you earn the Mind Badge at Mossdeep Gym, Team Magma will attack the center—it's your job to stop them.
-
Defeat all the Team Magma Grunts on the first floor. These fights should be pretty easy, especially after beating Tate and Liza.
-
Pair up with Steven Stone. On the second floor of the Space Center, you meet Steven Stone and will pair up to double battle against Maxie and Tabitha.
- Tabitha has a level 36 Camerupt, a level 38 Mightyena, and a level 40 Golbat. Maxie has a level 42 Mightyena, a level 43 Crobat, and a level 44 Camerupt.[2]
-
Head for Steven’s house. After defeating Team Magma and saving the Mossdeep Space Center, go back to Mossdeep City and enter Steven's house. His house is to the left of the Pokémon Center.
-
Talk to Steven. Steven will thank you for what you've done. As a token of appreciation, he will give you HM08 Dive.[3]
