How to Turn Off Speaker on iPhone

Turn off the default speaker option in Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing > Choose “Automatic” for iPhones. On a landline, picking up the receiver will often direct the audio from the speakerphone to the built-in, smaller speaker.

Tap the round, highlighted "Speaker" button on your screen. If you're using either Android or iPhone, this button has a picture of a speaker and says "Speaker" beneath it and will appear every time you're making or receiving a call.^{[1]
