She was a late addition to The Debut: Dream Academy, but she quickly became a top-ranking contestant and ended up placing fourth overall in the show’s finale. Before Dream Academy, Yoonchae grew up in Seoul, South Korea, and spent two years as a K-pop trainee prior to debuting with KATSEYE.^{[12]

The group assembled through The Debut: Dream Academy, a reality and survival show that showcased the training and elimination process for a large group of hopeful idols. Ultimately, six members were selected: Sophia, Lara, Daniela, Yoonchae, Megan, and Manon. They’ve since released multiple hit songs that combine K-pop and international pop styles, including “Gnarly,” “Gabriela,” “Touch,” “Internet Girl,” and “Debut.”^{[13]

Fun Facts About KATSEYE

The fandom name is a portmanteau of “eye” (which comes from the second part of the girl group’s name) and the word “icons.” EYEKONS is also pronounced as “icons.” This name was actually chosen following a fan contest, and it was officially confirmed by KATSEYE in April 2024.^{[14]

Specifically, the girl group’s name was inspired by the chrysoberyl variety of the cat’s eye gemstone, which is known for its range of different colors and patterns. KATSEYE’s members felt that the gemstone represented their various personalities, skills, and cultural backgrounds coming together as one.^{[15]
