There’s plenty of online debate on whether or not Roblox is permissible in Islam. We’re here to tell you that it is… well, sorta. It depends on the game you decide to play and what content that game has. In this article, we'll explain if playing Roblox is haram (forbidden in Islam), which Roblox games are haram vs. halal, if trading Roblox stock is haram, and more. Is Roblox haram?

Roblox itself isn’t haram, but some of the games and behaviors on the platform are. Potentially haram aspects of Roblox include in-game violence, gambling, avatar creation, and inappropriate social interaction. If you avoid games with haram content and use a premade avatar, Roblox is halal (permissible).

   Roblox itself isn’t haram, but some of the games are considered haram. Since Roblox is just a sandbox game, it isn’t inherently haram (forbidden in Islam), but many of the games include haram content. Some promote violence, while others contain explicit language and gameplay. But some, like Grow a Garden, can be considered halal (permissible in Islam) as long as they abide by Islamic rules and don’t promote violence or inappropriate behavior.

   If you customize your avatar in Roblox, it’s typically considered haram. Creating your own character in Roblox is often considered haram by Sheikhs, since you’re technically trying to imitate Allah’s creations. If you select a premade avatar or character, then that isn’t haram, since you're not the one making the avatar and imitating Allah’s creations.

   • Islam education expert Belal Elkadri says everything is halal and haram, with many things being in a grey area. According to Elkadri, the Prophet Muhammad said, “Stay far away from those shaded areas where it could be disliked, but it's borderline haram.”

   No, trading Roblox stock is not haram. As of October 2025, trading Roblox is halal due to its compliance with Shariah. However, it’s important to follow Islamic law when trading to maintain that halal status. When trading Roblox stock, you must pay zakat depending on your nisab threshold (the amount of money you make to become eligible to pay zakat). Use a zakat calculator to determine how much you’ve profited in a year and how much you’ll need to pay back.

   • Dividends that you earn are also halal, but you must purify them by calculating the percentage of non-Shariah-compliant income the company’s made, then donating that percentage of your dividend to charity.

   Loot Boxes Gambling is not permissible in Islam, and loot boxes are all about gambling. Since loot boxes are unclear and don’t evenly distribute rewards, which go against the principle of Gharar (which emphasizes transparency and fairness during transactions), this makes them haram, along with any other form of gambling.

   In-Game Violence Violence is explicitly forbidden in Islam, whether it be in-person violence or in-game violence. Many Roblox games involve in-game violence, too, like Combat Warriors, where you fight other players with your fists and ranged weapons, and Phantom Forces, which is a first-person shooter that uses realistic guns.

   Explicit Content Not all Roblox games feature explicit content, but many of the 18+ games do, making those games haram. This explicit content includes strong language, sexually suggestive actions and behaviors, and graphic violence with lots of blood. In-game dating can result in suggestive and potentially inappropriate words being exchanged between the two online partners, which is forbidden in Islam.    Use premade avatars that are dressed modestly. Creating avatars in Roblox is haram because it's considered imitating Allah’s creations, but picking premade characters is permissible. Select a premade Roblox avatar that’s dressed in modest clothing (instead of creating your own), and make sure it’s the same gender as you to abide by Islamic principles.

   Limit your playtime to avoid distractions. Dedicating all of your time to Roblox is considered haram, since it can distract you from other useful activities and religious duties. Limit your playtime to a few hours a day, and make sure you schedule it after you’ve handled all of your responsibilities and obligations.

   Choose educational games. Educational games provide new online learning opportunities, which can help you grow as a Muslim and ensure that your time spent on Roblox isn’t wasted. On top of that, educational games typically don’t have violence and explicit content, so you can play Roblox without going against Islamic values.

Use parental controls to avoid haram content and keep the risk of exposure to haram content to a minimum. It’s the perfect option if you’re looking to play while maintaining Islamic values.
