The Omegaverse is a world both like and unlike ours. The introduction of the secondary genders of alpha, beta, and omega has resulted in anatomical, lifestyle, and cultural differences from those of us in the real world. Though different authors have different interpretations of the Omegaverse and each builds their fictional universe with slight variation, here is a list of some common vocabulary associated with the Omegaverse that may clue you in on its workings!

Alpha: To be an alpha is to be one of the three secondary genders in the Omegaverse. Alphas are viewed as dominant and often occupy positions of power within Omegaverse societies. Alphas tend to be attracted to omegas.
Beta: To be a beta is to be one of the three secondary genders in the Omegaverse. Betas tend to be viewed as neutral or versatile within the social hierarchy, having the ability to either be more dominant, submissive, or neither. Betas tend to have varying preferences for other alphas, betas, or omegas.
Heat: A heat refers to a period of increased reproductive drive for omegas and some betas, during which they tend to crave companionship.
Mark: To mark someone usually refers to biting them in such a way as to leave an imprint on them for an amount of time. A mark refers to such an imprint. In the Omegaverse, marking someone on their scent gland is a symbol of becoming mates.
Mate: A mate is a person’s romantic or sexual partner, and refers to a relationship akin to the marriage bond in real life. It is often linked to the idea of a soulmate.
Nesting: Nesting is a common behavior observed in pregnant omegas who build safe spaces from pillows, blankets, and soft sofas in anticipation of their child.
Omega: To be an omega is to be one of the three secondary genders in the Omegaverse. Omegas are viewed as submissive and often occupy positions of support within Omegaverse societies. Omegas tend to be attracted to alphas.
Scent gland: A scent gland is an anatomical feature of people in the Omegaverse which produces their unique scent, which is an important part of communicating identity and status. Scent glands also play an important role in mating rituals and processes.
Suppressant: There are heat suppressants and scent suppressants, and both serve to alleviate the effects of their respective symptoms. These are often used by omegas and some betas who do not have mates to reduce the impact of their secondary genders on their daily lives.
