Omegaverse is a fanfiction genre that’s all about romantic dynamics between dominant and submissive partners. In omegaverse, people have their usual genders—male, female, nonbinary, etc—but they also have secondary genders: alpha, beta, and omega. Their secondary gender determines many of their physical and personality traits and how they interact with each other.

What are pheromones in omegaverse?
Pheromones in real life are chemicals that many animals use to communicate without speaking. In omegaverse, people also have pheromones that they mostly use to attract romantic partners and seduce them. It’s said that each person has their own unique pheromones, and that certain people are intensely drawn to certain pheromones, helping people meet their perfect match.

Do people actually have pheromones?
It’s been shown that people do excrete sexual chemicals, much like animals, but researchers aren’t ready to say those chemical compounds are pheromones or that they work the same way. They’re still studying the nature and effects of these chemicals before they call them pheromones, but it’s an exciting and interesting scientific topic! What we do know is that people do tend to have emotional and physical responses to certain smells, and that certain smells are attractive or even linked with sexual arousal.
