Toy collector Alyssa Velez says all Care Bears have a special symbol on their bellies and are different colors to represent their personalities. Some of the most beloved original Care Bears are Bedtime, Birthday, and Funshine. Many have been added since the 1980s, like Care-a-lot Bear and Daydream Bear.

The Care Bears were created in 1981 to help kids express their feelings. Designed by Elena Kucharik, the original 10 bears featured badges on their bellies that symbolized a particular emotion. Velez says each Bear’s symbol and unique, fun color also represent its personality.^{[1]

How much are vintage Care Bears worth? Though many people started collecting Care Bears in the 1980s, most of them aren’t worth more than $5-$10. However, the original Care Bear Cousins have been known to sell between $500-$1,000. Others, like the Harmony Care Bear, have sold for around $250.^{[7]

How do you keep your Care Bear in good shape? To take care of your bears, gently scrub out any stains with a damp microfiber cloth and a drop of dish soap. Dry them off with a clean cloth and either let them continue to air dry or dry them on the delicate cycle in your dryer. Avoid washing Care Bears in the washing machine.^{[8]
