Fun BABYMETAL Facts

  • They were featured as playable characters in the Super Mario Maker video game. With a mushroom power-up, Mario could transform into the BABYMETAL band. As they jumped and collected coins, they’d have small voice lines instead of Mario’s regular lines. Crazy! Right?
  • Before they were BABYMETAL, they were the Heavy Metal Music Club. The Heavy Metal Music Club was a subgroup of the group Sakura Gakuin, a school-themed Japanese idol group that disbanded in 2021. Su, Moa, Momoko, and the former member Yui were all members of the group, with Su, Moa, and Yui going on to form BABYMETAL, and Momoko eventually joining the group after Yui’s departure.
  • BABYMETAL’s been featured in the anime One Punch Man. In season 3 of One Punch Man, BABYMETAL and fellow band JAM Project collaborated for the opening track. Titled “Get No Satisfied !,” this track is the first time that the band has ever sung an anime opening.
  • When BABYMETAL was formed, the members were preteens. The band was initially formed in 2010, when Su was 13 years old and Yui and Moa were 11. As a result, their first album was more childish and J-pop oriented, with their later albums leaning further into metal.
