Celebrities: they're just like us—except when it comes to naming kids. Seriously, you'd be shocked at the strange names famous people bestow on their children, and we partnered with a pop culture commentator to help us compile a list of some of the most outrageous celebrity baby names from the last few decades. Keep reading to find some of the most bizarre and truly weird celeb baby names! Who knows, maybe you'll even find the perfect name for your own little one. (But probably not.)

Our Favorite Quirky Celebrity Kids' Names

Pop culture commentator Corey Andrew says celebrities have been getting creative with baby names in recent years, citing Blue Ivy (Beyoncé & Jay-Z), North West (Kanye West & Kim Kardashian), and Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee & Beth Riesgraf) as standouts. Other weird celebrity baby names include:

  • Saga Blade (Parents: Megan Fox & Machine Gun Kelly)
  • Apple (Parents: Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin)
  • X Æ A-Xii (Parents: Grimes & Elon Musk)

X Æ A-Xii, Techno Mechanicus, and Exa Dark Sideræl

  1. Probably the only thing worse than being called "X Æ A-Xii" is having Elon Musk for a father. Apparently, the name is pronounced "X Ash A 12," but you know people say "X A-E Ah-Zee" or something.
    • As for Techno Mechanicus, it's apparently a reference to the game Warhammer 4000.
    • "Exa" is a reference to the supercomputing term exaFLOPS, and "Dark" is…well, dark. "Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe," Grimes explains in a Vanity Fair interview, and honestly, we can't argue with her on that. "Sideræl" is a name Musk and Grimes created, apparently evolving from the word "sidereal," which Grimes defines as "the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time."

North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm

  1. Andrew mentions North West as being quite unusual.[2] "North" apparently came from a joke Jay Leno made, which Kardashian decided to run with. The name of their second child, "Saint," was chosen because, after a difficult pregnancy, his birth was such a blessing.[3] "Chicago" is a tribute to Ye's roots, and "Psalm," like "Saint," was selected for its Biblical significance.
    • Andrews says, “When it comes to celebrity baby names, it sometimes feels like an unofficial trend report on how wild you can get with a moniker before the rest of the world raises an eyebrow.”[4]

Mason Dash, Penelope Scotland, and Reign Aston

  1. Kardashian chose "Mason" because "Kardashian" means "mason" in Armenian (so his name is "Mason Dash Mason," we guess). "Dash" is a tribute to her father, Robert Kardashian, whose nickname was Dash, as was the name of the family's former clothing chain.
    • As for "Scotland," it's a tribute to the Kardashians' Scottish roots, while "Aston" was inspired by "Anglo-Saxon King Athelstan."
    • Andrew says he isn’t sure if Reign is a nod to royalty, but Kourtney and Scott were certainly thinking outside the box when they chose their children’s names.[9]

Rumer Willis

  1. Parents: Bruce Willis and Demi Moore Andrew says Rumer, the name of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s eldest child, feels like a mix of classic cool and celebrity flair.[16] Moore has said that Rumer’s name was inspired by English author Rumer Godden (she’s a fan of her work).

Willow Smith

  1. Parents: Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith Andrew says Willow’s name “whispers nature chic.”[17] Her parents chose “Willow” as her name because it’s a direct nod to her father’s name, Will. Similarly, her brother’s name, Jaden, was inspired by his mother’s name, Jada.
    • “If you are feeling inspired to ditch the classic Emma or Jacob, Bob or Mary, for something a little more headline-worthy, take a page from the celebrity playbook,” Andrew says. “Embrace that inner Maverick, Blue, Rumor, Scout, Willow, or Apple and remember: your kid can always change their name later if they hate it.”[18]
