Easily watch and search YouTube videos without an account

While a Google account is required to sign into YouTube, you don't actually need a Gmail account to watch YouTube videos. However, if you want to watch an age-restricted video, chat on a live video, leave a comment, or subscribe to a channel, you will need to sign in to YouTube.[1] But what if you don't want a Gmail address? This wikiHow guide will teach you how to watch YouTube without signing in with a Google account, including how to create a YouTube account without Gmail.

How to Watch YouTube Without Signing In

You don't need a Google account to watch most YouTube videos. You will be prompted to sign in for age-restricted videos, which requires an account. If you want to avoid creating an account, you can still view and browse YouTube content using the search bar and recommended video lists. A Google account is not necessary to view/browse videos with the mobile app either.

  1. Navigate to https://accounts.google.com/SignUpWithoutGmail. You will be taken to a form to create a new account. Note that the email field lacks the “@gmail.com” watermark seen on the normal sign-up page.
    • You'll only need to use this method if you want to subscribe to channels, like and comment on videos, watch age-restricted videos, and create playlists. If you just want to watch YouTube videos without an account, jump down to Watching YouTube Without an Account.
  2. Here's how:
    • Enter your name and click Next.
    • Enter your birthdate and gender, then click Next.
    • Enter your non-Gmail email address and click Next.
    • Google will now send a verification code to the email address you entered.

  3. When you receive the confirmation email from Google, it will contain a code. Enter the code into the Google account signup form and click Next to confirm.
  4. Enter the password you want to use to log in, then type it a second time to make sure you've typed it correctly. Click Next to continue.
  5. The “I Agree” button will be disabled until you have scrolled through the terms. After clicking, your new Google account will be ready to use.
    • If you want to set some more options for your Google account, you can click More options to do things like personalize your account settings and web activity.
  6. Go to https://youtube.com and click Sign in at the top-right corner to log in to your new account. You now have a YouTube account without a Gmail account.
    • If you are already signed in from your verification session, you can skip the sign-in process.
  7. With a YouTube account, you can now take advantage of features on the site that you couldn't before. Some things you can now do on YouTube include:

  1. If you want to avoid creating an account altogether, you can still view and browse YouTube's content using the search bar and recommended video lists.
    • A Google account is not necessary to view/browse videos with the mobile app either.
    • Age verification is done using the birthdate on your Google account; thus, you are required to log in to view age-restricted videos.
  2. If you're prompted to sign in to watch a video due to age restrictions, it's fairly easy to bypass the prompt without creating an account using a Tampermonkey script called Simple YouTube Age Restriction Bypass. Here's how:
    • Install the Tampermonkey extension from the Chrome Extension Store by clicking Add to Chrome on the page.
    • Go to the Simple YouTube Age Restriction Bypass script site and click Install this script.
    • Once installed, click the puzzle piece icon at the top-right corner of Chrome, then click Manage extensions at the bottom.
    • Toggle on the "Developer mode" switch at the top-right corner.
    • Open the Tampermonkey extension in your extensions menu (the puzzle piece icon) and make sure the age restriction bypass script is turned on.
    • Go to the YouTube video you want to watch. You will no longer need to sign in.
  3. Watch live video game streams at https://gaming.youtube.com/. You can watch live-streamed games and gaming-related news using YouTube's gaming service. You can also watch other YouTube Live videos without having a Gmail account.
    • You must have an account if you want to chat during a live stream or subscribe to a channel.
  4. You don't need an account to share YouTube videos with friends—just click the Share button under a video to bring up a menu with various links to social media sites, as well as a shortened URL for easy sharing.[2]
    • On mobile devices, tap the video while watching to bring up the options, and tap the “Share” icon (curved arrow) to bring up the sharing menu.
    • You can link to a specific time in a video by appending the video's URL with “#t” followed by the timestamp. For example, “#t=1m50s” will link straight to 1 minute and 50 seconds into the video.
  5. If you have a smart TV, Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, or Amazon Fire TV Stick, you can use the YouTube app on your TV to watch YouTube without signing in.
