If you’re afraid of the ocean and the unknown creatures living there, then SCP-1128 is one of the scariest monsters to exist. Read on to learn more about what this aquatic beast is, how to escape, and if it’s even real in the first place.

SCP-1128: The Aquatic Horror Explained

SCP-1128, or the Aquatic Horror, is a fictional aquatic monster that attacks people who know about its physical appearance. When someone learns how it looks and is fully submerged in water, they're teleported to the ocean and attacked by SCP-1128. Victims can escape by swimming to the surface and getting your memory wiped.

  1. SCP-1128 is a large aquatic beast that attacks people who know what it looks like. SCP-1128 is also known as “The Aquatic Horror” because it can attack from any body of water. Whenever someone hears, reads, or sees its physical description, they get “infected” and are at risk of becoming the creature’s prey anytime they’re submerged in water.

  1. SCP-1128’s description is classified, but it’s said to resemble a giant shark. The actual appearance of SCP-1128 is kept secret so no other people get infected. The SCP destroys any images or descriptions of the beast, except for one written log used for running experiments. During one of these experiments, a diver sent by the Foundation noted that the creature has sharp teeth and is massive enough to eat an entire whale.[1]
    • Unfortunately, the diver was attacked by SCP-1128 and did not survive the encounter. No remains or equipment was recovered from the encounter.

What happens to victims of SCP-1128?

  1. 1
SCP-1128 teleports people to the ocean when they’re submerged in water. After someone learns of SCP-1128’s appearance, they are infected whenever they get into water. When an infected individual is fully submerged in any body of water, such as a lake, pool, or bathtub, they’re instantly teleported to the open ocean where the Aquatic Horror stalks and attacks them.
    • Some people have escaped and survived SCP-1128, bursting out of the water they disappeared from in a panic. However, they risk infecting other people if they talk about what they saw.
    • If SCP-1128 catches its victims, blood and remains reappear in the original body of water where they disappeared.
    • Various experiments done by the SCP reveal that audio and video equipment works after a victim is teleported, but the feeds disappear if the creature attacks.[2]
  2. 2
SCP-1128 can attack victims again from smaller bodies of water. Anyone who is lucky enough to escape SCP-1128 the first time is at risk of being attacked again. While victims have to be fully submerged during the first attack, they claim to see the Aquatic Horror from any body of water, no matter how small. In one instance, a victim disappeared into a glass of water, and they were never seen again.[3]

How do you escape SCP-1128?

PDF download Download Article
  1. 1
Avoid contact with water. Most victims of SCP-1128 develop hydrophobia and stay away from water as much as possible. However, because the Aquatic Horror can eventually attack from smaller bodies of water, this is not a long-term solution.
    • The Foundation discovered that SCP-1128 does not appear in other liquids, but they note that it would not be possible unless victims bathe and drink exotic chemicals.[4]
  2. 2
Swim to the water’s surface to get away from SCP-1128. If you’re unlucky enough to be teleported to the ocean where SCP-1128 lives, try your best to swim up towards the surface. When you come out of the water, you’ll appear back where you first disappeared.
  3. 3
Have your memory wiped to forget about SCP-1128 completely. Having any memory of what the Aquatic Horror looks like puts you at risk of being attacked again in the future or infecting other people. The SCP uses Class-C amnestics to erase anyone’s memories of the Aquatic Horror to keep them safe and prevent more attacks.

How is SCP-1128 contained?

PDF download Download Article
  1. 1
SCP-1128 hasn’t been successfully contained. SCP-1128 is considered a Euclid-class beast, which means more resources are required to contain it or that any form of containment is unreliable. The only way the Aquatic Horror can attack is when someone learns about its appearance, so attacks can be prevented. However, its ability to teleport a victim from any body of water makes it extremely dangerous.
  2. 2
The SCP patrols the area where the Aquatic Horror lives. The SCP has boats stationed around the area to prevent other ships from entering. They have also helped save victims who have been teleported there, though these operations tend to be riskier.

Is SCP-1128 real?

PDF download Download Article
  1. No, all SCPs are fictional stories written by an online community. You don’t have to worry about SCP-1128 appearing and attacking you. The SCP Foundation is a collection of horror stories about scary entities meant to look like a classified government site. Even though many of the stories are based on real things or have some realistic details, they’re all 100% fake.
    • Anyone can write and create their own SCP to add to the site, and there have been thousands created since it was created.
    • SCP-1128 was originally created by the user MrCobalt in May 2012.[5]
    • SCP-1128 may be based on “The Bloop,” which was a loud mysterious sound that was recorded underwater in the late 90s.[6]
