When you're performing the transfer, all of the relevant transfer information would be on the computer you were transferring from, which would have to have a monitor in order for you to complete the transfer. However, you do not need a monitor on the computer that's receiving the file, although you obviously wouldn't be able to view the file on the new computer without one.
