Do you want to add a link to a website or skip to a specific slide in your PowerPoint presentation? This can be done easily using hyperlinks. You can create this command for text or certain objects, like an arrow. Whether you're using the web, desktop, or mobile version, here's how to put a hyperlink in a Microsoft Office PowerPoint on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.

Create a Hyperlink on a PowerPoint Slide

  1. Select the text/object you want to use as a hyperlink.
  2. Click the Insert tab.
  3. Click Link, and then Insert Link.
  4. Click Existing File or Web Page or Place in This Document.
  5. Enter your hyperlink and click OK, then Insert.

  1. You can use text such as "click here", a website name, or something else. You can also use a shape or a picture.[1]
    • To create a shape, click the Insert tab and select Shapes. Select the shape you want, and then click + drag your cursor to create it. If you want the shape to stay proportioned, hold Shift while doing so.
    • To add a picture, click the Insert tab and select Pictures. Select where you want to upload from, and then select the picture.
    • Use this method to create a clickable link that redirects the viewer to a web page, file, or another slide.
  2. This is at the top of the page.

  3. This will open more options.
    • On Mac, you'll only need to click Link.
  4. A new window will open where you can enter your hyperlink information.
    • Select Existing File or Web Page to link to a website. Select Place in This Document to link to another slide.
    • On Mac, this is Web Page or File or This Document > Select a place in this document.
    • On PowerPoint Web, this is Webpage or file or This Presentation.
  5. This will vary slightly depending on where you want to link to.
    • To link to a website, insert the URL in the Address field and edit the Text to display/Display text if necessary. You can also add a ScreenTip if you want to show specific text when the cursor hovers over it.
    • To link to a new slide, select the slide you want to link to.
  6. The hyperlink will be created and attached to the text or object you selected. Now, when you click this text or object, you'll be redirected.
  7. If your hyperlink takes you to a specific slide in your presentation, you can create an Action Button that returns you to the previous slide or another location. This is helpful if you don't want to manually flip through your existing slides to find the correct one. This differs from a regular hyperlink because you can add sounds if you want.[2] Do the following:
    • Click the Insert tab and select Shapes.
    • Select an object under Action Buttons.
    • Click and drag on the slide to create the shape.
    • In the Action window, select Hyperlink to.
    • Click the drop-down menu and select Last slide or another slide.
    • Click OK.

  3. If you opened a web address or file recently, you can quickly add it by tapping it underneath the Recent Items header.
  4. This goes into the Address field.
    • If you want to change the text that displays, enter it in the Text to display box.

The "Clear all formatting" tool should fix it. Just highlight the link and press the "A" with an eraser over it. You could also try using the format paintbrush from normal text. Otherwise you can just copy and paste the link into a browser, then copy it back across to the PowerPoint.
