How Transformers Get Their Names
Canonically, Transformers have Cybertronian names, but since many are unpronounceable on earth, they take on English codenames. Some of these code names relate to abilities. For instance, Bumblebee received his nickname due to his accuracy with stinger weapons.
Though it's more rare, some Transformers have full names that describe where on Cybertron they're from. Megatron of Tarn is a good example of this!
While most names are derived from regular English words, pseudo-Latin or Latin often indicates a more "elite" status for characters. For instance, Optimus Prime clearly means "best" as it is derived from the Latin "optimus."
