Githyanki Naming Conventions

Githyanki of the Dungeons & Dragons universe are powerful warriors who live in the Astral Plane. If you're hoping to craft a name for a Githyanki OC, then a name generator is the perfect place to begin. Though, you can also create your own Githyanki name, so long as you follow a few standard naming conventions followed by these beings.

  • Use hard consonants. Consonants like "K," "G," "Z," "T", and "R" are common ingredients in a Githyanki name, which gives each name a harsh, powerful sound.
  • Use apostrophes. Githyanki often use apostrophes in their names, primarily in the middle of the name. So for example, "Bnoor" could become "B'noor."
  • Go shorter for men, longer for women. Men's names tend to be shorter and harsher, whereas women's name go a little longer (and sound slightly more ethereal).
  • Choose a strong meaning. Meanings are common and important in Githyanki culture, so be sure to choose a name that represents your character's values, character, or roles in life.
