A Therian shift refers to any experience where you feel more connected to your Theriotype, your animal identity, in a non-physical way.

It could be a phantom shift, where you feel a limb that isn’t there, like a tail. Or a dream shift, where you dream you are your Theriotype. There are also mental shifts, where your mindset becomes more instinctual or primal. You might feel like your hands are paws or that your body is more animal-like.

These experiences don’t last forever. Some Therians are always shifted, while others experience shifts occasionally. It’s different for everyone. What’s important to know is: shifts are not hallucinations, delusions, or signs of mental illness. They don’t cause harm or fear. If they did, then that’s something to discuss with a mental health professional. But for most Therians, shifts are benign and deeply personal experiences.

The best overall way to explain a therian shift is that it is a type of shift in mindset to something more animalistic. The most common shift people refer to is a mental shift, which is where, mentally, you feel more animal-like. For me, a mental shift is a very freeing feeling.

The second most common shift is a phantom shift, where you feel the limbs of your theriotype, like ears, tail, paws, etc. Some people have faint phantom shifts where it's hardly noticeable, and for some, they're very, very intense.

A therian shift refers to the feeling a therian might get when they "sense" a part of their animal theriotype and identify with them more than usual. You might experience a shift in a number of different ways:
  • Dream shifts: you might have dreams in which you are your theriotype in your truest form.
  • Mental shifts: you may think and view the world more like your theriotype and less like a human might.
  • Phantom shifts: you may sense an extra limb or other body part common to your theriotype (like a tail, wings, or extra teeth).
  • Sensory perception shifts: you might sense the world as your theriotype would (for instance, if your theriotype is a dog, your sense of smell may be more heightened).
How often a therian shifts, how long that shift lasts, and the type of shift they experience vary.

There are a lot of different kinds of therian shifts. There are phantom shifts, which are when you feel you have the limbs or whatever kind of appendages that your therian type has. Sometimes I feel I have lion ears or a lion muzzle. I often have teeth shifts, which are when I feel like my teeth are a lot pointier than they actually are. Once I had a full body shift, and I almost fell over because lions are not meant to stand on two legs.

There are also mental shifts, which are when you mentally go further into your theriotype's mental processes. My friends have noticed that when I mentally shift, I tend to get quieter, and I talk in very simplistic sentences. My eyes also dilate for some reason. They say even my gait when I am walking changes. These I hardly even notice myself, compared to a phantom shift that's sudden and intense.

There are also sensory shifts, which are where your senses are more fine-tuned to your environment (like your theriotype), and dream shifts, where you shift in a dream to be like your therian type. Shifts happen variably, some days more than others. If you are not in control of your shifts, then it is important to seek some sort of help with that, say from a licensed therapist.

Honestly I’ll have shifts without noting it so I really normalize it, except phantom shifts, their like the most noticeable shifts.
But If someone occasionally gets shifts then it might feel sudden
