Easily find your video card model on a desktop or laptop computer

Do you want to check what graphics card you have on your computer? You can easily see your graphics processing unit (GPU) on Windows using the Device Manager or Task Manager. On a Mac, you can find this information in the "System Report" area of your system settings. On Linux, you'll just need to enter a simple terminal command. This wikiHow guide shows you how to find your computer's graphics card information on a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer.

What GPU Do I Have?

  • On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, click Performance, and then click the GPU tab.
  • On Mac, click the Apple menu, select System Settings, and go to General > About > System Report > Graphics/Displays.
  • On Linux, use the command "sudo lshw -c display" to find your graphics card information.

Using Windows (Device Manager)

  1. Open the Start menu, type "Device Manager" into the search bar, then click Device Manager at the top of the search results.[1]
  2. This looks like a monitor icon with a small chip-like icon. You may need to scroll down to find it. Doing so expands it to show your installed graphics card(s).
    • You can also click the right-facing arrow to the left of Display adapters.
    • The options in the Device Manager window are organized in alphabetical order, so you'll find the "Display adapters" heading in the "D" section.
    • If you see indented options below the "Display adapters" heading, skip the next step.

  3. Your installed graphics card's name will appear under the Display adapters heading. If you see more than one name there, it means you have both a built-in graphics card and an installed graphics card.

  1. This opens the Windows task manager.
  2. This displays performance information about your PC by category.
  3. Now you'll see information about your graphics card, including its name and model, in the upper-right corner. You can also see additional details here, including the driver date and version number, your graphics card's memory capacity, and how much GPU memory is being consumed.

  1. Click the Terminal app icon, which is a black box, or press CTRL + ALT + T at the same time to open a new Terminal window.
  2. The lshw command displays a list of connected hardware. Adding these flags to the command filters the results to display only those relating to your display, including the name and speed of your GPU.[7]
    • If the command is not found, you can install it using your distribution's package manager. For example, on Debian-based systems, use sudo apt install lshw.
  3. You'll see the name and model of the GPU next to "product," and the manufacturer next to "Vendor."
