Straight vs. Lesbian Vibes

The truth is that there's no way to tell if someone is straight or lesbian based on looks, and you can't even know based on vibes. It's a personal journey for everyone, and looks can be deceiving. That's why we talked to gender and sexuality experts to explain more:

• Licensed social worker and LGBTQ+ identity expert Zoe Stoller says, "You really can't look at somebody and know for sure [if they're gay]. You might be able to more so intuit if they are engaging in queer community or queer spaces, but even then, who knows?"
• Licensed clinical psychologist Kateri Berasi, PsyD, says, "First and foremost, it is always better to ask than to make assumptions!... Before talking with someone about their sexuality, ask yourself why you want to know this and why it matters to you. Are you coming from an open or judgmental place?"
• Queer linguistics educator and cultural commentator Dean Modah gives us a clue: "[Lesbians'] nails are short because lesbians are... doing a lot of [hand stuff]... So they like to keep their nails nice and short and buffed and soft."
