  1. Tanjiro is Demon Slayer’s lovable main protagonist. He’s on a mission to cure his sister, Nezuko, of her demonic affliction and turn her back into a human—and along the way, he becomes a Demon Slayer, sworn to hunt demons and defeat the Demon King. Tanjiro is known for being kind, brave, and a devoted big brother throughout the series (although he’s ruthless when facing off against demons).[1]
    • Birthday: July 14

  2. Nezuko is a demon-human hybrid, transformed after being attacked by Muzan, the Demon King. Consequently, she spends much of the series trying to hang onto the remainder of her humanity, fighting against the inner demon trying to take over. She may not speak much (as she wears a bamboo muzzle), but she joins the Demon Slayers in battle from time to time—and often ends up showing her more wild, demonic side.[2]
    • Birthday: December 28

  3. Zenitsu is a major Demon Slayer character and, more often than not, the comic relief. Despite being a Demon Slayer, he can be a little cowardly and fearful, prone to running away rather than fighting. Yet, when Zenitsu falls asleep, he suddenly becomes a deadly fighter—able to hold his own against nearly any enemy. Thankfully, his conscious self eventually matures and becomes a better Demon Slayer, too.[3]
    • Birthday: September 3
    • Age: 16
    • Height: 5 feet, 4½ inches (164 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Virgo
    • First episode: 4
  4. Inosuke is a striking character, mainly because he’s usually wearing a boar head as a mask! He’s hot-tempered and impulsive, prone to acting first and thinking things over later; he never shies away from a fight. And sometimes his rashness gets him into trouble—but through it all, he remains a good friend and loyal, dependable Demon Slayer.[4]
    • Birthday: April 22
    • Age: 15
    • Height: 5 feet, 4½ inches (164 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Taurus
    • First episode: 11
  5. Kanao is a quiet, reserved Demon Slayer and the younger adopted sister of Shinobu Kocho. Her traumatic childhood experiences taught Kanao to protect herself by shutting down her emotions; thus, at the beginning of the series, Kanao seems emotionless and won’t make any decisions for herself. As the series continues, she grows into a more mature and emotionally present character.[5]
    • Birthday: May 19
    • Age: 16
    • Height: 5 feet, 1½ inches (156 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Taurus
    • First episode: 4
  6. Giyu is a senior Demon Slayer and the Water Hashira, as well as the character who first encounters Tanjiro and Nezuko at the beginning of the story. He tends to be reserved, preferring not to talk unless he has something important to say—and although he seems confident on the surface, he actually believes himself unworthy of being the Water Hashira (due to his guilt over his best friend Sabito’s death).[6]
    • Birthday: February 8
    • Age: 21
    • Height: 5 feet, 9¼ inches (176 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Aquarius
    • First episode: 1
  7. Genya is a hot-tempered Demon Slayer with a troubled past, having witnessed most of his family (save Sanemi) killed by his demonic mother. Thus, he’s committed to slaying demons—and even though he can’t use Breathing Techniques, he instead has the special talent of absorbing demons’ abilities. He’s quite surly at the beginning of the series, but becomes less so as time goes on.[7]
    • Birthday: January 7
    • Age: 16
    • Height: 5 feet, 11 inches (180 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Capricorn
    • First episode: 4
  8. Shinobu is quite the dynamic character. On the outside, she’s all smiles, friendliness, and jokes—but, as it turns out, that’s just because she’s hiding her burning, uncontrollable hatred of demons deep inside. And, in battle against demons, Shinobu is utterly ruthless; she’ll kill a demon with a smile on her face and uses poison to take down her enemies.[8]

    • Height: 4 feet, 11½ inches (151 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Pisces

  9. Tengen is the Demon Slayer Corps’ Sound Hashira. He’s loud, charming, and a little boastful, with flamboyant clothing and accessories to match his personality. He eventually retires as an active Slayer and focuses more on training up-and-coming pupils—but doesn’t lose his dramatic streak.[9]

    • Age: 23
    • Height: 6 feet, 6 inches (198 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Scorpio
    • First episode: 21
  10. Gyomei is the stoic and soft-spoken Stone Hashira. For all that Gyomei is large, powerful, and very strong, he’s actually quite sensitive underneath. Around his fellow Hashira and Demon Slayers, Gyomei is both authoritative and caring, committing fully to his demon-slaying role and expecting others to do the same. He also has a deep love of all living creatures and cries easily (even about things that seem inconsequential).[10]
    • Birthday: August 23
    • Age: 27
    • Height: 7 feet, 2½ inches (220 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Virgo
    • First episode: 21
  11. Kyojuro is the cheerful and enthusiastic Fire Hashira. He’s open and genuine in a way that few other characters are, and adheres to a strict, honorable moral code. He also has an optimistic attitude that simply can’t be squashed, and he does his utmost to find the positive in any situation—making him a fan-favorite character.[11]

    • Age: 20
    • Height: 5 feet, 9¾ inches (177 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Taurus
    • First episode: 21
  12. Mitsuri is the Demon Slayer Corps’ Love Hashira. She’s sweet-natured, kind, and very openly emotional—a contrast to many of her fellow Hashira. In battle, she uses Love Breathing techniques and possesses immense amounts of strength. During her early days as a Demon Slayer, Mitsuri was somewhat desperate for marriage; however, as she overcame her fear of rejection, she unlocked her full potential as a Hashira.[12]
    • Birthday: June 1

    • Height: 5 feet, 6 inches (167 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Gemini

  13. Obanai is a Demon Slayer and the Serpent Hashira. He pretty much fits the definition of “dark and mysterious,” and he can be pretty harsh—both toward himself and his fellow Demon Slayers. He has exceedingly high, nearly unrealistic standards and berates comrades he thinks are “weak,” coming across as quite merciless. Nonetheless, his softer side comes out occasionally, particularly around Mitsuri.[13]
    • Birthday: September 15
    • Age: 21
    • Height: 5 feet, 3¾ inches (162 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Virgo
    • First episode: 22
  14. Sanemi is the Demon Slayers’ Wind Hashira: cold, abrasive, stubborn, and utterly consumed by hatred for demons. Having lost most of his family in the past, Sanemi tends to close off his emotions and dismiss anyone who tries to get close to him, including his own brother, Genya. He also loathes demons to the point of believing they can never coexist with humans.[14]
    • Birthday: November 29
    • Age: 21
    • Height: 5 feet, 10½ inches (179 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Sagittarius
    • First episode: 22
  15. Muichiro is the Mist Hashira. He often appears aloof and even a little airheaded, tending to get stuck in his own head. He also doesn’t have much in the way of emotional reactions, making him seem apathetic. As a child, he was much more open and compassionate—but, after his twin brother, Yuichiro, was attacked by a demon and killed, Muichiro lost his memories and became the more aloof version of himself.
    • Birthday: August 8
    • Age: 14
    • Height: 5 feet, 3 inches (160 cm)
    • Zodiac sign: Leo
    • First episode: 21
  16. Murata is one of the few totally normal humans who takes part in the Demon Slayer action, training with the Demon Slayer Corps despite his lack of ability and only slight inclination toward water breathing. While most humans wouldn’t be strong enough to fight against demons, and Murata himself isn’t nearly as strong as his fellow Slayers, he still finds ways to support them in battle.
