A quick guide to saving your PPT file as an image with or without Microsoft PowerPoint
PDF download Download Article

PowerPoint allows you to save your presentation as other file types including the ability to save each slide as a JPEG file on both Windows and Mac versions. This is useful if you do not have access to PowerPoint on the computer you are giving a presentation on. If you don't have PowerPoint, there are online options that make it easy to convert.

Converting PPT to JPEG

  1. Select the slide you want to save.
  2. Go to File > Save As/Export.
  3. Name your file, then select the image format (*.jpg).
  4. Click Save and Current Slide Only or All Slides.

  1. It's a thumbnail on the left side of your screen.
    • Use this method to save the entire presentation or individual slides as an image.
    • If you don't see the slides on the left side of your window, go to View > Normal (it's in the "Presentation Views" grouping).
  2. This will allow you to save a single slide.
    • On Mac, click File then Export.[1]
    • Continue saving your file, like selecting where to save it to and the file name.

  3. The file format is .jpg, but it works just like a .jpeg. The two are interchangeable formats.
  4. A window will pop up.
  5. You can either save one slide as an image or everything.
    • If you opted to select all files, each slide will be saved as a separate JPEG image.[2]

Using an Online Conversion Tool

  1. Use this method if you do not have PowerPoint available or if your version of PowerPoint does not allow you to convert your presentation to JPEG images. Search for "convert ppt to jpg" in a search engine of your choice. There are dozens of web-based tools online that do not require a download.
    • Try using an online web-based tool such as Zamzar or Convertio. Other tools may act slightly differently but will use a similar method of converting your presentation. Use your discretion when using links from untrustworthy sources, as other sites might perform malicious actions on your computer.
  2. Click "Choose Files" or "Browse Files". The wording may not be exactly the same, but it will allow you to use File Manager to choose the PPT to convert. This opens a file browser that requires a PowerPoint (*.ppt) file as a source.
    • Double-click to select the file and close your file manager.
    • If needed, select jpg/jpeg as the format you want to convert to.
  3. This text varies depending on your online tool, but it's similar. Click on the "Open" link that appears afterward to download the converted slides to your computer. This link will remain active for one hour.
