Changing your home page (start page) in the Firefox web browser lets you customize your browsing experience. This guide will teach you easy ways to change your homepage in Firefox on your PC, Mac, or mobile device. And if your new homepage isn't working or you're seeing a homepage you didn't set, we'll also show you how to get rid of malware and extensions that affect your homepage.

Quickly Set Up a Homepage in Firefox

  • To make a website your homepage, go to the website first, then drag the website's tab to the house icon in the top toolbar.
  • If you don't see a house icon in the Firefox toolbar, right-click a blank area of the toolbar, select Customize Toolbar, drag the Home icon to the top, then click Done.
  • You can also change your homepage and customize the Firefox default start page in > Settings > Home.

    Add the Home icon to your toolbar. First, if you don't see a house icon at the top of Firefox (to the left of the address bar), you'll need to add it. Here's how:
    • Right-click a blank area of the toolbar, such as between the Refresh icon and the address bar.
    • Click Customize Toolbar… on the menu.
    • Drag the Home icon (the house) up to the top of your browser, just left of the address bar.
    • Click Done to save your changes.

    Choose what to show when you open new tabs and windows. Click the menu next to "Homepage and new windows," then select the type of homepage you want to see each time you open a new window or tab. Then, do the same for new tabs.
    • Firefox Home (Default) is the default Firefox start page, which you can customize by adding a search bar, weather, news, and more.
    • To set a specific homepage, select Custom URLs…
    • To make a blank page your homepage, select Blank Page.

    Set a specific homepage (optional). If you chose Custom URLs…, a new field will appear. Type the full URL of the page you want to make your homepage, e.g., https://www.wikihow.com. Alternatively, you can choose to set the current page(s) you have open or select a bookmark.

Removing Malware Homepages (Computer)

  1. Reset Firefox. If your home page is set to an advertisement against your will, resetting Firefox is the simplest solution. Note that this will delete all your extensions and add-ons. Your bookmarks and saved passwords should remain. To reset Firefox:[4]
    • Click the menu and select Settings.
    • Go to Help > More troubleshooting information.
    • Click Refresh Firefox…
    • Click Refresh Firefox to confirm.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Unwanted add-ons can set your home page by force and prevent you from changing it. If you don't want to reset Firefox, here's another way to deal with the problem:[5]
    • Click the menu and select Extensions and themes.
    • Click Extensions.
    • Click ••• on any extensions you don't recognize and click Remove.
