Fun Facts About Attack on Titan

  • Attack on Titan was inspired by one of Hajime Isayama’s drunk customers. While he was working at an internet cafe, Isayama encountered a drunk person who was unable to communicate, which inspired him to come up with the giant monsters. He thought that not being able to communicate, even though they were both humans, was fascinating and would use that idea as the basis for Titans.
  • Saul Goodman makes a cameo appearance in the show. Although he doesn’t appear as a lawyer like in Breaking Bad, Saul Goodman makes a quick appearance as a Titan in season 4. Once Eren breaks down the walls and Titans start swarming Shiganshina, Saul Goodman shows up in Titan form, ready to attack and eat Armin and Mikasa. Series creator Hajime Isayama didn’t make Goodman’s character too deep, either; he was just really into Breaking Bad at the time.
  • The world in Attack on Titan is based on the real world. The similarities between our world and the world of Attack on Titan are vast, with the key difference being that the world map in the show is an upside-down version of our world. Marley takes the place of Africa, Paradis takes the place of the island of Madagascar, and Hizuru is up for debate (some fans say it’s based on Japan, while others say it’s based in Papua New Guinea; it’s never confirmed).
  • Levi Ackerman suffers from insomnia. Series creator Hajime Isayama confirmed that the cunning Captain Levi suffers from mild insomnia. Every night, he gets about 2-3 hours of sleep due to a combination of past trauma, PTSD, and nightmares. This often results in Ackerman falling asleep in random places, like chairs and floors.
