Sword Art Online Character Guide

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series by Reki Kawahara that has also been adapted into a manga series and anime television series. The story follows protagonists Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki as they become trapped in a virtual reality game called Sword Art Online, along with several other players. The stakes are much higher than a typical video game, though—if you die in the game, you die in real life! Here's an overview of the series's main characters:

  • Kirito (Kazuto Kirigaya): The main protagonist of the series, Kirito is a beta tester for Sword Art Online who ends up becoming a skilled player. He's on the introverted side and starts out as a bit of a loner, but he ends up forming strong bonds with his friends within the game.
