Instagram's recent update lets users reshare stories from public accounts to their own story without being tagged or mentioned. This makes sharing faster, but it can also be an issue for those who prefer privacy. Anyone can share your story to their own, and others might think you mentioned them even if you didn't. Luckily, Instagram gives you the option to turn this feature off. This guide will show you how to do it!

  1. 1
Launch the Instagram app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad. Tap the Instagram icon (multicoloured camera) and log in if needed. Make sure the app is up to date.
    • The option we are discussing isn’t available on the web version, so you’ll need the Android or iOS app.
  2. 2
Tap on your profile picture. You will see it at the bottom-right corner of your screen, and it will take you to your profile page.

  3. 3
Tap on the button. The hamburger menu will be located at the top-right corner of your profile page.
  4. 4
Tap on the Sharing and reuse option. Scroll down to find it under the “How others can interact with you” section.
    • Stories from private accounts or stories shared to close friends cannot be reshared. If your account is private, you will not see the “Sharing and reuse” option because it is not required.
  5. 5
Select Off next to the “Stories to stories” option. You’ll find it under “Story shares”.
    • You can also choose “Followers you follow back” if you want only people you follow back to reshare your story without tagging.
  6. 6
That’s it! Once you turn off the “Stories to stories” option, no one you haven’t mentioned in your story can share it to their stories. You can change this anytime you want. You're done!

Tips

  • If you turn off the “Story shares” option in “Sharing and reuse”, the share icon will be removed from your stories. This disables others from sending your stories in messages and from sharing them to their own stories.
