Fun Facts About My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

  • It isn’t written by Kohei Horikoshi, but My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is canon to My Hero Academia. The two shows take place in the same universe, with the events of Vigilantes occurring five years before My Hero Academia. Although it was written by Hideyuki Furuhashi, Horikoshi (My Hero Academia’s creator), does consider it a legitimate, canon prequel.
  • Izuku Midoriya’s mom makes a cameo in the first episode. Although the show takes place five years before Midoriya enrolls at U.A. and becomes the 9th wielder of One For All, his presence is felt in the very first episode. During a montage showing Koichi Haimawari’s work as a vigilante, we see him giving Inko Midoriya (Izuku’s mom) directions while she’s traveling. What a fun little easter egg connecting the Vigilantes to the rest of the MHA universe!
  • There’s a Thomas the Tank Engine parody villain in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes! Tommy S. Gordon isn’t actually Thomas the Tank Engine, but he looks just like him. His head and upper chest are a steam-powered train and he has the same circular, cartoonish face as Thomas the Tank Engine. Talk about a crazy cameo!
  • There’s a parody hero of the musician Prince. Although he’s not actually Prince, Purple Highness (real name Tenma Nakaoji) is clearly a parody of him. He’s got the same long hair and mustache, and is just as stylish as the Prince of Purple. You’d think his Quirk would be music, right? Wrong! It’s actually Chest Hair, which boosts his manly traits.
