What Are the Rarest Dragons in How to Train Your Dragon?

There are several rare dragons in the HTTYD universe, although it’s hard to pinpoint one as the definitive rareest dragon. That being said, here are some extremely rare and elusive dragon types who would be contenders for the top spot:

  • Night Fury: After humans hunted them, this species was thought to be completely extinct before one Night Fury dragon (Toothless!) was found.
  • Screaming Death: This mutated form of the Whispering Death is a massive dragon species—and only one of them is known to exist.
  • Bewilderbeast: This Alpha class of dragons includes massive creatures that can spew ice; however, very few known members of this species exist.
  • Buffalord: This dragon species was hunted for its healing enzymes, leaving very few surviving creatures or eggs.
  • Purple Death or Red Death: These enormous and feared dragons are scarce and rarely seen.
