The style became popular in 2021 thanks to TikTok and has continued to play an important part in today’s fashion and lifestyle trends. Preppy girls wear bright colors and ruffles, edit their pictures with natural filters, and love all things with smiley faces.

This style is a transformative continuation of the original preppy aesthetic of the 2000s, which was made popular by movies like Clueless (1995) and Mean Girls (2004). The original preppy was more casual, sexy, and academic, flaunting pleated mini skirts, tight tops, and scarves.

While the term “preppy” has changed over time, the aesthetics remain rooted in the time’s trending fashion, bold colors, and femininity.
