What Is the Nonchalant Elevator Challenge?
The ‘Nonchalant Elevator Challenge” is a TikTok trend where people try to stop a closing elevator while seeming as nonchalant, casual, or unbothered as possible. Videos that belong to the trend are usually compilations of different people in a friend group trying to stop an elevator, with each person trying to be more “nonchalant” about it than their friends were.
In some basic examples, participants in the challenge simply stop the elevator with a hand or foot, then calmly stride into the elevator. Other people have gotten more creative, using their shoes, bags, hats, or even a dance move to stop the elevator. And then, of course, we have the fails, where people fail to stop the elevator altogether, or they stop it successfully but giggle or panic (which is the opposite of nonchalance).
For example, in this video by @finnosho, one participant stops the elevator with their hands before strutting in with a smile, another daps up someone inside the elevator, and yet another person tosses their hat to stop the elevator before catching the hat and placing it back on their head as they stroll inside.
