To do a roll-up in Pilates:
  1. Flex your feet under the strap of a Pilates mat to keep your ankles steady.
  2. Curl your spine and bring the bar toward your feet, then roll back down.
  3. Use your abdominal muscles to roll back until your arms are straight, then curl back up over your legs.
  4. Let go with your hands and roll all the way down to the mat and then all the way up.
  5. Repeat this movement with your feet under the strap, with straight legs.
Essentially, you’re curling your spine over your legs, similar to the shape of a conveyor belt. When I’m teaching new clients, I have them do a few with their knees bent, holding the back of their legs, and then a few where they roll down.
