Fun Facts About Chainsaw Man

  • Denji appears in the My Hero Academia manga. In chapter 259, titled “A Quiet Beginning,” the Paranormal Liberation Front team shows plenty of villains in a panel, including Denji in his Chainsaw form. Although he only appears in one panel, his appearance is still a welcome surprise for fans of both series.
  • Denji’s origins are based on the author Tatsuki Fujimoto’s own experiences. In an interview with Jump+, Fujimoto admitted that, like Denji, he too had a nihilistic outlook on life, particularly after graduating from college, and only wanted the basic accommodations out of life. Like Denji, the early years of Fujimoto’s adulthood were mired in poverty and the desire to live a simple, comfortable life, a desire that surely inspired Denji’s character writing.
  • Aki’s name reflects his desire to get revenge against the Gun Devil for killing his family. His name is a play on the AK-47 gun, taking the AK and stretching it out. The reference isn’t just in the name, though, as his hair is also designed to resemble the firing hammer of a gun, specifically his ponytail.
  • Power’s personality is inspired by Eric Cartman from South Park. Manga is no stranger to drawing inspiration from other types of fiction, and the Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto admitted that Power’s design and personality are inspired by the loud, foul-mouthed South Park character. Like Cartman, Power is self-centered, obnoxious, and not afraid to mock or talk down to others. It’s crazy what connections these characters have to each other!
