These swords deal a ton of damage, but they’re slow. Colossal swords have the highest DMG rating and attack range of any weapon in The Forge, which makes them a fan favorite. However, they’re also the slowest. Like great axes, these S-Tier weapons require a lot of rare ores to craft. You’re not likely to be able to make one of these early in the game.

Katanas are similar to straight swords, with slightly better attack range. Katanas are well-balanced weapons that fall solidly into the A-Tier. They’re fast (although some of the better straight swords have the edge when it comes to attack speed), do a decent amount of damage, and have an excellent attack range. Like straight swords, they’re also relatively easy to craft, even if you haven’t collected a huge number of rare ores.

These short-range weapons do a healthy dose of damage. They’re also pretty fast. If you enjoy fisticuffs, gauntlets are a solid choice, and they are easy to craft without a lot of rare ores. Like straight swords, they’re variable in quality, but the best ones are considered A-Tier.

The best gauntlets are Boxing Gloves (DMG: 8; Attack Speed: 0.59 seconds; Attack Range: 6) and Relevator (DMG: 9.6; Attack Speed: 0.69 seconds; Attack Range: 6). Try the following recipes to potentially generate gauntlets:

How to Upgrade Your Weapons

Enhance your weapons to increase their base stats. You can make an awesome base weapon even greater with enhancements. Enhancing a weapon can improve things like its attack damage, speed, and range. To do it, visit the Enhancer NPC. You can find an Enhancer on every island. Select the weapon you want to enhance and give the Enhancer the required types of Essence for the enhancement you want. ^{[1]

- You can collect Essence by killing enemies.
- Once you enhance a weapon to level 3, you unlock the ability to enchant it by adding Runes!

Add enchantments to your weapons with Runes. Like Essence, you can get Runes by killing enemies. Runes can give your weapons additional properties, such as certain types of magical damage (e.g., poison, burn, or explosions). They can also heal you during battle or increase your chance of rare item drops.
- Once your weapon is upgraded to level 3, ask the Enhancer to add Rune slots.
- When you’ve collected a Rune you want to add to your weapon, visit the Runemaker NPC. The Runemaker has locations at Stonewake's Cross and The Forgotten Kingdom.
- You’ll need to pay a fee in gold and Essence to attach the Rune.
- You can also pay a small fee in gold to have the Runemaker detach a rune if you want to swap it out for a different one!
