If someone shares a video with you on Facebook Messenger, you can tap it to play it in the conversation. But what if you want to watch the video offline? If someone sends you a video from their computer, phone, or tablet through Messenger, you can easily save it to your camera roll or gallery. If you want to save a video from the Facebook app (not Messenger) to your phone or tablet, it's also pretty easy to do as long as the video is not private—just be careful, as downloading streaming videos may violate your region's copyright laws. This wikiHow guide teaches you how to save videos from Facebook Messenger or the Facebook app onto your iPhone, iPad, or Android.

Saving a Facebook Messenger Video (All Mobile)

   Open the conversation containing the video. You can use this method on your Android, iPhone, or iPad to download a video someone attached from their device to a message in Facebook Messenger. If you don't see the video right away, scroll to it so it's visible.

   • If the person sent you a video from somewhere else on Facebook—you can tell if you see "https://fb.watch" followed by some numbers and letters above it—tap and hold the video, select Copy, and then skip to the iPhone download method or Android download method for downloading streaming Facebook videos.
   • If the video is shared from YouTube, it's trickier to download. In that case, check out our guide to downloading YouTube videos for the best ways to save them to your device.

   Tap and hold the video. Don't play the video—just tap and hold it until some options appear.

   Tap Save or Save Video. If you don't see one of these options at the bottom, tap More to expand more options.

   • If you've already allowed Messenger to access your camera roll, the video will download immediately. If not, you'll be prompted to give permission now.
   • Once the video is saved, you can watch it any time, on or offline, by opening your Photos or Gallery app and tapping the video.

Saving a Video from Facebook (iPhone/iPad)

   Tap the video you want to download from Facebook. If the video is a public video you found on Facebook, not one you received via Messenger, use this method to save it to your iPhone's camera roll.

   Tap the Copy icon. It's the chain link icon at the bottom-right corner of the video.

   • Alternatively, you can tap the three dots at the video's upper-right corner in the Facebook app and select Copy Link.

   Go to https://fdown.net in a web browser. Facebook Video Downloader makes it easy to save Facebook videos to your device. You'll first need to save it to Files, but we'll show you how to move it to the camera roll once that's done.

   Paste the copied link into the field and tap Download. To paste it, tap and hold the field that says "Enter Facebook Video Link," then tap Paste.

   • This website has many ads, so don't follow any links unless they're the ones we describe.

   Tap the download link for your preferred quality. For a faster download that takes up less space on your device, select Download Video in Normal Quality. You can opt for HD quality if you'd prefer.

   Tap Save… at the bottom. The "Save in" menu will appear.

   Select the Files app and tap Save. This saves the Facebook video to your phone or tablet. You can keep track of the progress at the bottom of the screen. Once the download is complete, continue to the next step.

   Open the Files app and tap the downloaded video. You can find the Files app in your App Library or by searching. If you don't see a thumbnail for your video, tap Browse at the bottom-right, select On My iPhone, and then select your Downloads folder.

   • If you used Chrome to download the video, tap the Chrome folder instead of Downloads.

    Tap Save Video. You'll see this below the app icons. You may have to scroll down a little to see it. This instantly saves the Facebook video to your camera roll, where it'll be the most recent addition to the Photos app.

   Scroll to the video you want to download from Facebook. If the video is a public video you found on Facebook, not one you received via Messenger, use this method to save it to your Android's gallery.

   Tap the three dots at the top-right and select Copy link. This saves the video's direct URL to your Android's clipboard.

   Open Chrome and paste the video's URL. In Chrome, erase anything that's in the address bar, then paste the copied URL by tapping and holding the address bar and selecting Paste.

   Long-press the video and select Download video. This downloads the video to your photo gallery. You can find it in the Downloads folder in Google Photos.

   • Tap Allow Access to All Photos if prompted.
