A settlement under your leadership would be most desirable, but it can theoretically be left anywhere; your Pip-Boy will save its location, and it can't be stolen if it has no fusion core.

It is unfortunate, but there is no way to force an enemy out of your power armor. Your best option is to kill the raider and remove the power armor pieces from the corpse. Repair the pieces and then search for another power armor frame.

Power armor does make you slower, but it can increase your carry capacity and damage resistance, and it also reduces effects of radiation, melee, poison, and fire attacks. You can also modify power armor with paint jobs to increase certain skills while wearing it.

The Nuclear Physicist perk makes fusion cores last 25% longer. Each additional rank (three in total) raises this percentage.

If you walk up to the power armor, its inventory will appear on your HUD. Press the "transfer" button to transfer items between you and the armor. You can use this to change the power armor pieces as well. Or, you can walk up to a suit and press the interact button if there is no fusion core inside, and your character will put one in, if there is one in your inventory.
