    Expert Answer
It is, especially for beginners, because the nylon strings are much easier on fingers, and the steel strings are going to hurt. That's why I recommend starting on a classical guitar. It is also very versatile compared to a steel string and electric guitar, because you can finger pick quite easily, alternate pick, or use a plectrum.

    Community Answer
You can use your index finger to bar the strings, mimicking a capo, but this can be challenging if your finger strength isn't developed. It's advisable to acquire a capo, as it allows you to use your index finger for other techniques in more complex pieces. Capos are generally inexpensive.
  • Question
Can I play the guitar upside down?

Yes, it is physically possible, but it would be very inconvenient. You would need to adapt your strumming direction and effectively reverse all chord shapes and tablature, making it significantly more challenging to learn and interpret. This approach is generally unnecessary; if you are left-handed, a purpose-built left-handed guitar offers a much more practical solution.
