    Expert Answer
Never do that! Instead of trying to catch the ghost, focus on sending the spirit to its proper place. Imagine that place and ask your higher self to take them where they need to be (or should be). Then, envision an open door and try to shoot the spirit out of your house.
  • Question
What if I hear a girl scream in my basement, what could that mean?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
It could mean that you have a ghost in your basement that is very upset. You could also be hearing someone's television or something going on outside or in a neighbor's house.
  • Question
What do I do if ghosts are haunting paintings in my house?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
If the ghosts are haunting paintings, take them down - either permanently, or put them back up in places where you don't normally go (in your house).
  • Question
    Can a ghost scratch me?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
No. Ghosts are only spirits, and a spirit can't scratch you. If it can scratch you, it is a poltergeist or other creature.
  • Question
Which are more dangerous -- child or adult ghosts?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Children have a better imagination, and therefore their ghosts are likely to be far more evil because they have less morals or boundaries. Then again, it also depends on the individual -- some adults never grow up and some have simply done very bad things, morally speaking.
  • Question
Why do ghosts want to bug you?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Unresolved business, scathing personalities and even for the amusement of it. Maybe they just want attention or perhaps you've annoyed them by summoning them from their slumber. It may be a deceased family member wanting to talk to you and you've repeatedly ignored them. If you believe in ghosts, consider asking them their business, rather than assuming anything.
  • Question
My ghost has been around for 15 years, not a big problem. I would notice its presence once per year but lately it's been four to five times in three months. This morning for the first time it was breathing deeply and quickly but I could not see it. Thoughts?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Your ghost may be trying to tell you to get the walls in your house checked for dampness and maybe even black mold. The heavy breathing may be indicative of your ghost trying to give you an image of poor health in the respiratory area, an area often impacted by black mold. Look for dampness or signs of mildew on your walls and ceilings.
  • Question
How do I know if there is a ghost in my house?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Unnatural feelings, objects moving of their own accord (in my home, two pieces of cat litter were thrown across an empty room), inexplicable sounds, orbs (small balls of light), and even full-bodied apparitions.
  • Question
Can I get a free inspection for ghosts?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Maybe you could ask your faith's elders or leaders to come have a look for you. In some religions, there are people designated to deal with ghostly spirits. However, it would be polite to give them a donation and to cover their gas costs.
  • Question
If telling the ghost to leave doesn't work, how else do I make it leave?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Many ghost hunters are seeking the opportunity to interact with a ghost, and would be willing to help you. Remain calm and try cleaning your home with smudge, or have a priest help. Seek outside help from psychologists and ghost hunters in your area.
  • Question
How can I address unusual activity in my home, such as lights turning off, a stereo activating, and objects being thrown?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
This type of activity often suggests a poltergeist. If someone in your household is experiencing significant stress, addressing their stress levels may help resolve the disturbances, as emotional energy is sometimes linked to such phenomena; additionally, refer to the steps outlined in this article for further guidance.
  • Question
Is it possible to get rid of a ghost by tearing down a building it might be in?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
I don't think so -- usually the spirit would just remain in that area. But it depends. If it's a garage or something attached to your home, then the spirit may just move into your actual home. If it's just an empty building, then it could possibly disappear from the site once the building is gone.
  • Question
What do I do if I see a shadow that is not mine?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
First, calm down. It could be your vision problems or something else. It could be a ghost, but the chances are low. Even if it is a ghost, you are most likely safe. It may well be the shadow of something real too, such as an object or a passerby from the street. Don't assume it's a ghost -- look for a real explanation first.
  • Question
How do I help the ghost leave in peace without harming anyone?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Tell the ghost that it doesn't belong in your home, and that it's time to move on, its loved ones are waiting for it in the light. Burning sage and imagining a white, protective light around yourself and your home can protect you against any negative energies.
  • Question
How can I remove multiple ghosts or poltergeists from my home?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Yes, you can address multiple ghosts by verbally asking them to leave your home, especially if you know their names. For poltergeists, which are often attributed to the subconscious stress of a living individual with psychokinetic abilities, identifying and resolving that person's underlying stress can help cease the activity.
  • Question
Will a ghost physically harm me?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Generally, no. However, if you are concerned for your safety, consider consulting a religious leader, such as a priest or pastor, for guidance and prayer for yourself, your family, and your home.
  • Question
How do you get ghosts to stop waking you up during the night?
    Community Answer

Simply ask your ghost politely to be quieter when it is around you during the night. Speak with deference and kindness.
  • Question
How can I see the ghost?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Well, you can't really see it, but you can try to talk to it. See if it leaves you any clues about why it is there. If you want, you can leave out a paper with writing or a question on it and a writing tool next to it. Leave it out overnight. Check the paper the next morning to see if anything was written on it.
  • Question
What should I do if I have a little girl ghost in my house?
    IiKingJordan
    IiKingJordan
    Community Answer
You might consider attempting to communicate with the spirit. While a Ouija board is one option, if you are hesitant to use it, alternative tools such as an EVP recorder, thermal camera, or ghost box are also available. It is generally believed that such spirits are more likely to be afraid themselves than to cause harm.
  • Question
What do I do if I hear banging in the next room, and it seems like things have been moved? What causes this?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
You may not have a ghost, but a poltergeist. Unlike ghosts, poltergeists are of a mischievous or malevolent nature, whereas most ghosts are harmless.

  • Question
What should I do if the doorbell rings and no one is there?

  • Question
How can I stop a ghost from repeatedly pushing over my dishes?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
You can assert your authority by speaking firmly and ordering the ghost to leave. To protect your dishes, store them securely in locked cupboards using safety clips, or place them in a safe, inaccessible location. This behavior might also reflect a characteristic of its past personality.
  • Question
Can ghosts attach themselves to human hosts?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Yes, but don't worry. The type of ghosts that can haunt you are psychological and not "real ghosts." You are just nervous if you feel haunted, or worried. So the type of spirit people qualify as "ghosts" cannot haunt you, but a mixture of feelings can make you feel "haunted."
  • Question
Can someone have a ghost help with a physical or spiritual problem?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
It would depend on the ghost and the nature of your relationship with it. You're probably better off seeking that kind of help elsewhere, though.
  • Question
Is there a difference between ghosts and demons?
    PreuxFox
    PreuxFox
    Top Answerer
This depends on what culture you come from or spiritual beliefs you hold. Most people would define a ghost as the spirit of a dead human, and would define a demon as something that was never human. However, in some cultures and belief systems, everything (including animals and plants) leaves behind a spirit when it dies that may be evil or good and there are no distinctions; conversely, some Christian beliefs state that there is no such thing as a human ghost and that any supernatural entity pretending to be a ghost is actually a demon trying to trick you.

Ghosts typically do not take material possessions like money or medicine. It is more likely that you are dealing with a living person.
