Have you heard that someone’s giving off a green aura with flies on TikTok, and you’re confused by what they mean? We’re here to explain what this viral meme sensation is really all about. Keep reading, and we’ll cover the meaning of the meme and how it started. Plus, spiritual advisor Emily Christensen and intuitive counselor Kari Samuels share deeper insights into the spiritual meanings of green auras and flies.
“Green Aura with Flies” Overview
If someone has a green aura with flies, it means that they’re acting in a way that makes you feel awkward or that they’re smelly. The meme started as a joke on TikTok and went viral after @edmondx posted a video where someone called him stinky while a green aura and flies effect surrounded him.
Steps
What does a green aura mean spiritually?
-
Green is spiritually associated with compassion and love. Interestingly, Christensen says that one aspect of a green aura may actually play into the association with bad odors: green can “initiate a healing response” in a therapeutic setting. “[Green] is associated with the Heart Chakra and encourages the body to release energies that no longer support health—which leads to a purge of energy.” She adds that some people are sensitive to these energies, and may be able to see, feel, or even smell them. “When the body is purging old, imbalanced energies, they can be perceived as pungent odors.”[5]
- “The color green symbolizes regeneration, renewal, healing, connection to the earth, and alignment with life. When we work with green, we are releasing things that do not serve our optimal health and [replacing them] with renewed life force,” Christensen says.[6]
- Christensen explains that the body clears this old energy by releasing “trapped emotions, memories, and physical maladies as invisible vapors comprised of spiritual plasma.” She adds, “As an energy-sensitive individual, you might experience this clearing of old energy as unpleasant odors.”[7]
- Although it may seem off-putting, Christensen says that these are signs of healthy growth: “Energetic decomposition is also a part of renewal and rejuvenation, as death is a process of a healthy life cycle.”[8]
- Samuels agrees that “Green is the color of the heart chakra, so it would correlate with compassion, kindness, and love.” She says that people with green auras can signal balance, healing, and confidence, as well.[9]
-
Green is also associated with abundance and your career. Christensen adds that the color green can have many meanings in spiritual or healing practices, including abundance, home, security, stability, career, and money. She notes that if you’re doing energy work with the color Green as a way to cultivate abundance, you may be less likely to notice smells unless you’re releasing “limiting beliefs surrounding success, career, and abundance.”[10]

What do flies mean spiritually?
-
Flies can indicate you’re vulnerable to psychic attack. Christensen explains that flies are the most common beings sent as monitoring spirits. “If you happen to have a lot of flies that spring up in your environment—and you have a clean home with no food, trash, or dishes left out—they could indicate you are being spiritually surveyed by lower vibrational beings called ‘watcher spirits’ or ‘monitoring spirits.’ Some people consider these beings demonic or evil based on their intentions of causing harm or feeding off the energy of the people they observe.”[11]
- “This is where the expression ‘fly on the wall’ comes from,” says Christensen, “observing the activities of others without detection. Flies are associated with pestilence, death, and decay. They have been associated with plagues and curses in many religious contexts as well as being servants to Beelzebub, also known as ‘Lord of the Flies.’”[12]
- Christensen adds that the purpose of these beings is to find emotional, spiritual, or physical weakness in the person they’re observing. Then, they “relay that information back to the being or entity that sent them.”[13]
- With that information, Christensen says that the being that sent the flies would then “deploy methods of psychic attacks, spiritual attacks, and emotional manipulation to deter you from progressing positively in your life, to steal blessings, or cause sickness.” She adds that these attacks can look like self-doubt, negative thoughts or feelings that seem to come from nowhere, or feeling confused, tired, depressed, or agitated for no reason.[14]
- Christensen adds that there are a number of ways you can protect yourself from these attacks, which tend to target “spiritually strong [people] … who show great promise becoming healers, spiritual leaders, highly intuitive persons, and metaphysically inclined magic users.” She says their purpose is to “lead these people away from using their gifts and connecting with their inner guidance, source, and spirit helpers.”[15]
-
Flies might be a sign to cleanse your space or energy. A fly can also be a spirit animal “trying to tell you that it is time to do some cleansing,” says Christensen. It could be asking you to “clean your house, organize your space, throw out old belongings, or cleanse your energy.” She says that the fly is a sign that “you have let things pile up and get out of hand. Doing some spring cleaning or seeing a Reiki Therapist can help clear out old stagnant energy in the body, mind, and space. It will create more space for new opportunities and growth.”[16]
- “If a fly comes to you when you need advice about a project or situation, it might be giving you a fresh perspective on how to act quickly, use perseverance, and be resourceful and adaptable,” Christensen says. “Try to reuse old material or recognize how old methods might need to be put to rest to make new systems. Our waste or old processes can be recycled and updated to create a brand new product. Get creative and start looking at the situation like the fly does—where is the biggest dung pile [and] how can you make it into an asset?”[17]
-
Flies can signal that it’s time to evolve. Christensen explains that if you’re “struggling to leave or change something in your life, [flies remind] us of the importance of death, rebirth, and transformation. Flies have short life cycles but are a big part of nature’s life and death cycles. They go from maggot to fly, the entire cycle born of decay or death. Life thriving from endings.”[18]
- Christensen adds that the fly can “teach us how to let go, change, and evolve even during the lowest and most challenging times in one’s life. [They] can also teach us how to transform a bad situation into a blessing.”[19]
