By default, Siri uses your first name to address you. You can, however, tell Siri to use a nickname or add one manually. You can also fix the way that Siri pronounces a name. Here's how to get Siri to say your name on iPhone or iPad.
Telling Siri to Say Your Name
Use the command, "What's my name?" to make Siri say your name. If you need to change the name Siri uses, edit your Card in the Contacts app, or ask Siri "From now on, call me [name]." There's no other way to make Siri say your name aside from asking directly.
Steps
-
Open the Contacts app. This looks like a book with colored tabs on the right side.
- If you don't already have Siri set up, do so now.
-
Tap My Card. You can find this at the very top. It'll be next to your current name and profile photo.
- If you don't see this, tap + in the top-right corner and enter your information. Tap and hold the new contact in the list and select Make this My Card.[1]
-
Tap Edit. This is in the top-right corner.
-
Enter a new name. Delete the current name in the field and enter a new one.
-
Tap Done. This will save the new name.
-
Open the Contacts app. If Siri is mispronouncing your name or a contact's name incorrectly, you can change the pronunciation.
-
Tap the contact that you want to fix the pronunciation for. This can be anyone in your contacts list, including yourself.
-
Tap Edit. This will allow you to change the contact's details.
-
Scroll down and tap add field. This will allow you to select a new field to add to the contact.
-
Tap Phonetic First Name. You can use this to change the pronunciation of the contact's first name. You can also select "Phonetic Middle Name" or "Phonetic Last Name" if you need to change the pronunciation for either of these.
-
Type the phonetic spelling for the name. Use a spelling that will make Siri pronounce it correctly. For example, you might spell "Margot" as "Margoh."
-
Tap Done. This will save your changes.
