If your Amazon FireStick remote isn't working, you can easily reset it. If a factory reset doesn't work, you can enable Troubleshooting Mode to see exactly why your FireStick remote is unresponsive. Here's what to do if your FireStick remote is not working.

Fixing Unresponsive FireStick Remote

If your FireStick TV remote is not working, replace the batteries. If that doesn't work, reset your remote. Unplug your Fire TV. Press and hold the Left + Menu + Back buttons for 12 seconds. Release, wait 5 seconds, and then remove the batteries. Plug your FireStick in, replace the batteries, and then press the Home button.

Perform a factory reset for your Amazon Fire TV Stick remote. This process will work for most FireStick remotes. You can also reset a Basic Edition or Alexa Voice Remote.^{[1]

- Unplug your Fire TV Stick.
- Press and hold the Left, Menu, and Back button at the same time for 12 seconds.
- Release the buttons and wait 5 seconds.
- Take out the batteries from the remote.
- Plug in your Fire TV.

Troubleshooting Mode can show you the issue via LED. Only some models support this mode. To check, press the Alexa button or microphone button on the remote. If you see an LED flash on the remote, you can enter troubleshooting mode.^{[2]

- Press the Rewind and Right buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.
- Press the Menu button.
- Press any button.
- Look at the LED color.
  - Red (slow blinking): Replace the batteries
  - Red (fast blinking): Reset the remote

  - White: Confirm the Fire TV device is on and active
  - Blue: Restart your Fire TV device
- Press and hold the Play/Pause button and the Up button at the same time for three seconds to deactivate Troubleshooting Mode.

Replace the batteries.

It's best to use newly purchased batteries, so you know they have a full charge in them. Open the panel on the back of the remote and replace the batteries with new ones.

Re-pair the remote.

Pair your FireStick remote to your device again. It's possible your remote is unpaired with your device. This can happen if you have a replacement remote.
- Unplug the Fire Stick from power.
- Remove the batteries from your Fire Stick remote.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Connect the Fire TV Stick to power.
- Put the batteries back into your remote.
- Press and hold the Home button on the remote.

Reset the FireStick.

In some cases, the issue may be with the Fire TV Stick itself rather than the remote. In this case, you can reset your Fire TV device. Do the following:
- Unplug the Fire TV Stick power cord.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in.
- When it boots up, try your remote.

Use a remote alternative.

If your remote still isn't working, you can use a different method in the meantime. You can control your Fire Stick using the Amazon Fire TV app, a TV remote with HDMI-CEC, or even a Bluetooth device.
- To use the app, download the Amazon Fire TV app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Connect to the same Wi-Fi network as your Fire device and enable Bluetooth. Follow the instructions on the app.
