Discover the perfect gift for your family and friends
PDF download Download Article

Do you want to buy the perfect gift for a friend, colleague, or family member? You can take a peek at their Amazon wish list to see what they would really like for their birthday or other occasion. Traditional Amazon wish lists are private, so you can only view one if someone shares it with you. However, if the person created a public gift list, which is a little different, you can use the Amazon gift list search to find their list. Read on to learn how to find someone's Amazon wish list or gift list on your phone, tablet, or computer.

Is there an Amazon wish list search?

If you want to find someone's Amazon wish list, they'll need to have a public gift list or registry. You can search for someone's gift list at amazon.com/registries. If you want to view someone's private wish list, you'll have to ask them to share it with you.

Finding a Gift List or Registry

  1. While you can't search for a private Amazon wish list by name, you can easily find someone's gift list or registry as long as it's public. Use any web browser, be it on your phone, tablet, or computer, to access www.amazon.com/registries.
    • Gift lists are lists people create for themselves or their children for birthdays, holidays, and other gift-worthy events. Gift lists can be public, private, or only reachable by link, depending on how the person sets it up.[1]
    • "Wish lists" are private lists only available to the person who created them unless they share them with you. If you want to see someone's private wish list, ask them to share it.[2]
  2. 2
Choose the type of list you're looking for. Click or tap the Find a registry menu, then select Gift List under "Select an occasion" to search for a general gift wish list.
    • If you're shopping for someone who has a Baby Registry or Wedding Registry, choose the appropriate Amazon registry option instead.

  3. 3
Click or tap Search. This opens a search form that allows you to search lists by name, event type, date, location, and more, depending on the kind of list you're searching for.
  4. The options are a little different depending on what you're searching for–if you're searching for a gift list, you can search for the person's name, and also add optional information like "Event type" (e.g., Birthday, Graduation, etc.), location, and event dates.[3]
    • If you're looking for a child's gift list, search for the parent's name, not the child's.
  5. This displays the items on the list, as well as whether items have been purchased already.
    • If the list was created less than 24 hours ago or is set to private, it won't appear in the search results.

Asking Your Friends to Share Their Wishlists

  1. 1
Go to Your Lists on Amazon. If you can't find someone's list, it's likely a private wish list–the original type of Amazon wish list. To view it, you'll need to ask the person to share the list with you. To get started:[4]
    • In the Amazon mobile app, tap ☰, select Lists, then tap See all at the top.
    • In a web browser, go to the Your Lists page. Alternatively, hover your mouse over "Account & Lists" at the top of Amazon and Wish List.
  2. You'll see one of these two tabs at the top, depending on your device.[5]
    • If any friends have shared their Amazon list with you, you'll see it here.
  3. This messaging area lets you ask your friend to share the list so you can see it.
  4. You can either select Copy message so you can paste it anywhere for your friend to see, or you can click Email this message to open your device's default emailing app and send the request via email to your friend's email address.[6]
    • Once your friend has shared the list with you, you'll be able to find it in Your Lists > Your Friends > [Their name]'s list.
    • If you're not sure which email address your friend uses for Amazon, ask them first.

  1. If a friend has asked you to share your Amazon wish list, you can do so easily from the Amazon mobile app or using Amazon on your computer.
    • To get to your wish list on a computer, hover your mouse over your name at the top-right, then select the name of your list.
    • On a phone or tablet, tap ☰, select Lists, then tap the list at the top.
  2. 2
Select the Invite option. You'll see it at the top of the wish list on both desktop and mobile.[7]
  3. If you just want to share your list so others can see it (and potentially shop for you), choose View only. If you want to allow the person you're sharing with to edit the list as well, View and edit.
  4. If you're using the Amazon mobile app, you can choose to copy the link and paste it into any app, send it via email, or text the link to someone. On a computer, you can copy the link or email it to your preferred recipient.[8]
    • If you copied the link, it's copied to your clipboard so you can paste it wherever you'd like.

    • If you'd rather create a gift list (searchable) or registry, select Create a Registry or Gift List instead, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. When you're browsing Amazon, click or tap Add to List to add that item to your list instead of your cart.[11]
  5. Once your list is created, you can change any settings that you may have missed when you were setting it up. Click or tap the three-dot menu ••• at the top of your list, then select Manage list. You can change the list name, privacy, Alexa's permissions, and other options.[12]

What's the difference between a wish list and a gift list?

PDF download Download Article
  1. In the past, "wish lists" were the only types of gift lists Amazon users could create and share with others. Now, wish lists are more for personal use–things you might want to buy yourself in the future. If your goal is to create a list of gift ideas to share with friends and family so they can buy you items from the list, you should make a gift list instead.[13]
    • Gift lists do not display your mailing address to people who view the list–they'll only see the city the gift will ship to.
    • You have the option of making your gift list searchable by name (public) or only visible to those you share the link with. Traditional wish lists are not searchable.[14]
    • You can opt to show gift list viewers which gifts from your list have already been purchased.
